It wasn’t alone, the Bitcoin and Litecoin alternatives went with it, apparently Reddit has beef about using a subreddit to drive traffic to other sites.
I don’t think the FTC one got used at all anyway, but you know. Gone now.
I wouldn’t say there’s a market for using lighter currencies like Feathercoin for this sort of thing just yet (I think the FTC one had all of one post in it?), so I wouldn’t rush to go create a site to take advantage of the hole it leaves, but it looks like Reddit probably won’t allow it on their site in the near future (at the very least the subreddit names), which means it’s open season for an indie to do one of those sites with a focus on alternate currency instead of Bitcoin by default.
Feel free to move/delete as needed. It’s not earth shattering news but it is FTC news nonetheless, so I figured throw it up here.
What?! Like, with LINKS?! Links that go to a site that’s not Reddit?!!
Hilarious.I think it might have been the adult for pay nature of the subreddits. Although I’m not exactly sure why that’s an issue. I doubt it’ll raise enough of a stink.

Actually it’s really interesting because in the Reddit TOS ALLLLLLLL adult material is prohibited and your account is subject to getting yoinked if you post some.
They allow it anyway because I think they just want an “under the surface” reason to shadowban anybody at any time.

That’s very weird. Are you sure that’s the reason? They shouldn’t be deleting subreddits like that, but I have heard about the Reddit Admins deleting controversial subreddits, but this one doesn’t sound like one!
Well, their reason can always be the adult content one because it violates TOS by default. The real reason is I think mods were getting kickbacks for having links to paysites in the margin.
Follow-up. That wasn’t the reason, either:

This subreddit has been banned as well.
I’m extremely disappointed by the dishonesty here. This wasn’t a situation where a subreddit was banned due to “links to personal blogs or projects” in the sidebar.
The subreddit was banned due to the moderators making an agreement with a site to have an “official” site that they suggest in the sidebar, mod sticky, and other places for people to host their images/videos in return for a percent of all of the revenue for that site.
That’s just plain not okay, and never has been. In addition, it appears that the moderators wanted to find a way to make income off of being a moderator, driving traffic, etc.
When the moderator wrote in, we explained why the subreddit and the mod accounts had been banned. I was distressed to see her not being completely honest about the reasons we gave (it wasn’t due to blogs or personal projects, it was due to finding a website and offering them traffic in return for pay).
We also asked the moderator not to moderate any further subreddits on reddit. It was not a negotiable request - and it was made quite clear. It’s pretty shitty to see how dishonestly this entire thing has been treated, so the moderators of /r/GGB are really the reason this entire thing is shut down. Trust has been lost, and it’s really sad.
This is relevant in case anyone wants to do anything with any FTC related subreddit. If an exchange or store or whatever approaches you to drive traffic from the subreddit to them for kickbacks, DON’T. Reddit isn’t the end-all, be-all of websites, but they’ll be a big player for a while at least and to get them to sour on anyone in the crypto community and any projects that they may partake in in the future would be bad news and it’s best to take this situation under advisement, even if it’s not immediately applicable to our current endeavors.
