R9 270 - Tweaking - \[BAMT SMOS\]
-
Ok it’s been running for a bit now and it’s bouncing between 480 and 490. Temp is down 1 degree and stales are up by 0.01%
485Khash/s 67c. Stales are 0.24% The card cost me AUD $237
Once I put in my second 270, I guesstimate this:
970Khash/s 70c. Cost of the 2 GPU’s $474.
That’s ~2.04Khash/s to the $
Now all I need to do is see what the power draw is and undervolt the PSU to squeeze out the max efficiency.
I assume that it will be more cost effective to get a 4x16 PCIE mobo and put in 4 290’s
Alas I do not have $2000+ for that rig yet.
-
nice info - will test it.
-
I do have a full on powerful aircon running on it though… so I’m not sure if the aircon gets turned off as to whether or not the card will cook… Tonight, ill be switching the aircon off and I’ll report back in the morning as to whether or not I have the rig running still.
-
Question…I have 2 R9 270X in same rig, same code, script, everything the same, card 1 runs great, card 2 always about 100 kH slower. Any suggestions
-
How close are they together? Might need risers to give the second card some space.
I’m not to sure to be honest. If it’s not anything in the settings then it could just be a heat issue.
How warm are the cards 1 and 2 running?
-
Thank you. Both cards are staying under 68F.
-
As if in 68 fahrenheit?
That’s only 20 celsius…
That is incredably cool…
Which mining program are you using?
What’s the hashrates for card 1 and 2?
-
device 0 420 - 450 stable no errors
device 1 320 - 350 stable no errorsCGminer…one line code no comma separation, I have switched the cards and get same results. I can run them separately and they will run 450, just when they are together, the 2nd card runs slower
second card is on a riser, and I have used it as #1 card on riser and will get 450, so not sure -
I really honestly don’t know. Very sorry.
If I do find out though, I’ll let you know.
Maybe a more experienced miner here will be able to help you troubleshoot the issue…
Have tried doing a good ol’ google search?
Post your 1 line codes up here (negating your username and password). This might help narrow down the issue.
Also. Try referring to the holy mining hardware comparison list. https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison

Thank you very much for help. I will post code to see if anyone can see something wrong. I was wondering if maybe it’s the mobo or cpu. :)
CPU no. Mobo, maybe… Post your mobo specs up as well… Maybe it’s the pcie slots. Not like an error, just maybe one of them runs slower then the other. I’m still learning as well.

So I ran it all night without the aircon. It’s still alive.
It’s running as follows.
480Khash/s
75°c.
0.69% Stales
85% Fan Speed (2496 RPM)Before letting it go last night, I tried pushed the thread-concurrency to 18000 but this dropped speeds back down to roughly 440Khash/s
So I believe I have found the cards sweet spot.
I think it would be pushing my luck trying to squeeze more hashes out of the card.
I’m all ready at the top range for the 270x. So considering it’s only a 270. I’m content.=^-^=
Next step is now to acquire my second 270 and maybe a box fan to assist with heat dissipation.
I can’t wait to see what I can do with the strait R9 280!
-
Calem those rates are amazing! I have two Saphire 270x’s and I can’t push either of them above 375KH/s
I tried your settings and it crashed instantly. I’m starting to wonder if my cards are just not up to scratch…
-
Damn… What Os are you running?
Maybe you should try what I’m doing by booting off usb with BAMT SMOS.
That could be difference maybe? Windows has a lot of crap running that just isn’t necessary for mining.
I really honestly wouldn’t know why I can push my 270 further than your 270x.
-
I’m using Windows 7 x64.
An OS built specifically for mining eh?! Thanks I’ll check it out.

hey since we talking about the r9 270x card I was wondering if it is possible to run 2 different cards. I am running right now Sapphire HD 7850 2gb on windows 7 64 bit. It has 750 or 800 watt ultra power supply on ASUS M2N-SLI mother board im pretty sure it has 2 PCI e spots. I just want to make sure I can run them both " current sapphire card with r9 270x card " with no problems if not no biggie friend is actually going to military so he just giving me the card before he leaves.
I believe you can. Don’t quote me on it though. I’ve seen rigs with 2 diff cards in em, so I’m assuming it’s ok.

I’m running a 270x with a 7850, it works just use 2 different instances of cgminer
-
nice your answer fits my question down to the dot. So you pretty much just have like 2 tabs open in the guiminer one for the 7850 and one for the r9 270x? Also what power supply do you use to keep them both nice and stable if I may ask and are you also on windows 7?
-
Just to chime back in here…
After more fiddling I’ve managed to get my hashes up to 425KH/s stable with no HW error @ 70C
I had heard that the R9 cards couldn’t handle intensity above 13 so hadn’t raised it above that. I decided to take the plunge last night and after some testing settled on 19.
I’ve still a way to go before I get where I want (450-480) but things are improving.
I’m in the process of writing BAMT SMOS to a USB drive and will report back once I have it up and running…
