Man that sucks >:) big time, I get impatient when I have to wait next day for the parts -

So why aren’t you using powered risers?

So why aren’t you using powered risers?
i will never understand powered risers are needed for new motherboards, or a setup of 3 or 4 gpu on their x16 connections.
What does new have to do with the mix?
Ive had no problem burning new mobos…It all depends on what the gpu is equipt with (2x8pin or 1x8pin+6pin), what card it is and how hard you push it (how much watt it takes).
Unless the mobo has molex connectors (asrock) to directly feed the pci express slots, then all mobos are equally shitty and in my eyes not quad GPU approved. -

What GPUs are you running/what speed, and how many? ;) -
If you don’t mind me asking, what sort of price has this lot set you back?

I’m using some pretty old core2 intel reference boards, because they were what I had kicking about at the time.
My cards have 2x8pin, which runs to the PSU and I drive them pretty hard, but with unpowered risers.
For my own peace of mind, can you shed any light on this being more of a concern for miners with 3+ cards? I know there are no golden rules, and I can make DIY powered risers this weekend… you guys just got me worrying about this again.
in 3 rigs with 4 280x each one, with an average of 700kh/s stable for months. And other with 3 7950 working an average of 630kh/s stable too. I never used powered risers as i said, but maybe it could improve something.
If you run the 280X on 700khash, then your not pushing em to the limit (around 750-760khash), those last 50khash does use alot of extra.
My old Gigabyte 7970 oc used 289w each when pushed to the mac (750khash). when it is equipped with 1x8pin and 1x6 pin the max power the card get directly from psu is 225w…
64watt in short, now if you then have 4 of these cards, your looking at a draw from the pci-express socket of 256w, those sockets are dimensioned for a total of 75w…Then this happens:
Two cards with dual 8pin power contacts, you should be fine.
each 8pin can supply 150w, so the card has the ability to draw up to 300w directly from the PSU. -
thats a sweet framework you have there! What are you using for that?
Now i’m scared, it was the first run, or after having it mining a long time?
Both, i have had it happen within the hour, and randomly after working for an month.
Thats why i take no chanses anymore.Sry if im scaring you, just talking from experience.
I have even had the 24Pin contact melted due to to much draw from the slots. (was an Enermax Maxrevo 1500w PSU) -

NICE CHEKAZ!just one TIP, in the future if you’re thinking about install 4 gpu, you will need more space between them… what does it mean? mean that you will need cut the support gpu structure and make it a little bit lower, why? easy, because your risers aren’t long enough, and sometimes it’s so annoying, they are so tight and don’t plug well.
I hope i will solve a little issue that you can have in the future.
Thanks but my mainboard got only 3 PCI slots :)
