Interesting Question! Exchanging PCI-E Connectors between computers!?
-
Alright I have 4x 7950s split between two computers. My original rig has an 850w power supply running two 7950s and the new rig I accidentally bought a 650w PS instead of the 850w I thought I bought. Before buying a bigger one and returning the 650w, I am wondering if I could take one PCI-E power connector from the 850W rig and connect it to one card in the 650W rig and one PCI-E power connector from the 650W rig to one card in the 850w rig. My 650W rig is working fine with one card at 19 intensity and SOMETIMES it runs for a while with the other at 12-14 but running both at high intensities reboots the pc, obviously its not enough power. I could just buy a bigger power supply but might as well see if this would work! Would love to have all 2200-2400 kh/s pointed at FTC!!

sounds like something i would try, except i would just run three cards off the 850w instead of tryin to split up the power between the 2 supplies. guess it comes down to the quality of the PSUs though. worst case scenario, you let the smoke out of something. don’t listen to me though, i only take responsibility for blowing up my own stuff…LMAO

I would not split the power like that, it could (I say could, not must) lead to damage on the card. Main reason is fluctuations in the voltage is different from the two plugs, which can damage some of the regulators on the card itself. Again, “can”, not must.
In your shoes, I wouldn’t risk it.
