Nice setup :D i see many ppl use cgminer is there any advantage over guiminer using this?
As far as ive read cgminer is a very stable option. dont think cgminer itself has crashed whatsover in the two months ive been mining (not counting windows fails…)
-
I see, tbh guiminer has also been rock solid also.
You can mine using either cgminer or reaper also saves all your pool logins and which gfx cards they use so you can have multiple tabs to easily connect or disconnect.
Essentially im using cgminer but with a gui interface so easier to control i suppose
as far as i know reaper is bad regarding stability.
i followed this guide for xubuntu/cgminer setup: http://www.cryptobadger.com/2013/04/build-a-litecoin-mining-rig-linux/
and im super happy=) -
2x7950 @ 655-670kh/s each. Locked voltage at 1.25. 1100MHz core and 1500MHz memory. Powertune +20. Temps at 72C and 86C. Ambient is around 23C.
I also have a 6950 in my desktop that runs around 350kh/s during non-gaming use and 480kh/s when I’m off the PC.I’ll be looking to change the voltage on the 7950s soon, but it requires a firmware flash and a bit of tweaking that I don’t have time for right now. I think the high temps on the second one is because of crummy thermal paste. I’ll be replacing that when I flash the firmware. That’ll all probably happen once I get my crate and other materials next week. Right now they’re sitting in a ghetto combination of plastic hangers and wires to give them better airflow. Precarious, but I think it’ll hold for a week.

I find cgminer to be more reliant than the other ones I tried, but I didn’t know much about what I was doing when I first started using them, so having stuck with cgminer all this time, I prefer it.
I prefer the ability to control the clock/mem speeds within the miner, and the auto-fan feature.
BUT I don’t know why, on the odd occasion, if I start cgminer, it will throttle the entire system and give me about 10khash/s – until I stop it. then the system comes back. I’ve checked processes and there are no remnants, and a reboot fixes it, so I’m guessing it’s just a funky trap with my hd5850.
But with batch files for each pool, setting the OC from the parameter, and having them in the startup folder in windows, makes it easy if the pc reboots or whatever while Im away… nothing worse than coming back to find that your miserable 380-390khash/s was stopped 5 mins after you left, and your whopping 8 coins a day won’t happen lmao.
AND THE BEST PART IS, I’M GETTING USED TO THE NOISE. :)
I’d post a photo of this ridiculous setup. but I’d be too ashamed. it’s my main PC but it actually looks like I’ve just wanged everything in a corner and everything is hanging out of it.
I’m with you there, I use GUIminer and I get great results from it, no problems whatsoever. ;)
Great stats, nearly a exact copy of mine, please let me know how the tweaking of the card goes.
My stats.
I’m getting Khash rates from my 7950’s at 664 to 666Khash, with these settings.
(Overclocking, msi afterburner settings are power limit at 20%, core clock at 1100Mhz and memory clock at 1350Mhz) -

My stupid ass rig!
(been working on it the entire day to convert for linux, what did i get, less hashrate and to few pci-e extenders and to few psie power connectors. Oh and before i forget, one of my rigs with 6950,3x6870 died a couple of minutes ago, either the psu or the mb to blaim…)
bottom left: 4x 5870 (total 1279khash non clocked average 74degrees, did 1560khash in windows with 80degrees)
middle left: 5x6970 (total 2011khash non clocked heat between 61-82degrees, did 2300khash in windows with around 82 degrees on all cards)
top left: 3x7970, 2x7850 (total 2200khash non clocked, heat between 60-71degrees, did 2560khash in windows with around 75-85 degrees)
bottom right: 1x6950, 3x6870 (total who the fuck nows… its dead ::))
top right: 2x5830 (my best cards, giving me around 500khash total, but hell ive hit a lot of blocks with em!, as of now, dead since im 1 hdd short…)My main computer: 7990 (1056 khash, non clocked. should be 2x7990 but heat issue… need watercooling).
I was hoping to reach 10k this week, but it doesnt look good. lost around 800khash just for converting to linux.
And nothing seems to want to work today :oStill hope for a rock stable system since all the cards are more cooler under xubuntu, also much more easier to manage with ssh terminals to each rigs for easy maintenance/changes
Everyone seems to have a garden strimmer next to their rigs, does this boost the hashing power of the rig? as I keep mine quite close and get great stats from my rig. :D

hehe its called shedpower. also mounted a bathroom fan on the door pushing 100m^3 air/hour so everything is finally nice and cool.
-
A bathroom fan on the door, I must get around to doing that. ;)
Had a problem with room temp during this summer. Was about 35 degrees in the shed
Had circulation problem.
Now i have 2x420mm fans blowing from the back of the rig and towards the door.
And a 420mm in the middle of the room to push the air further.
After installing that bathroom fan i now have outside temp (10-20degrees) in thr room:) -
Summer is just starting here and that will be a problem, as I only starting mining during winter a few months ago, I never had any cooling problems until recently, (its been a hot week). Cheers for the tips.

There’s mine… Older picture. Have more hashing power up and a 2nd shelf, too. 15MH, and expanding to about 20MH in the next day or so.
Top hashrates are from about 8 Gigabyte 7950s that do ~650KHs stable @ 75*C.
If anyone has any generic questions, feel free to ask. I have trained it periodically on FTC. Plan to do so after awhile on FTC yet again.

What settings/system/program/oc do you use to get 650 on 7950.
Im considering changing my entire park of gpus and buy 15x7950…
However those hardware comparison guides are usually way off from what im able to get for some reason -
cgminer --gpu-engine 1080 --gpu-memclock 1500 --thread-concurrency 22272 --intensity 20 --scrypt --worksize 256 --lookup-gap 2 -g 1
That delivers above 650 consistently for me, with the card being in the 75C range.

hmm i know that you build awesome rigs. buuut still how are you
able to clock the cards from 850 to 1080 engine and 5000 to 6000 memory
and still keep it at 75 degrees and intensity 20??? -
The cards run at 100% fans. And this is in an open scenario, no extra fans blowing on them (in a large room). The ambient temp rose 3 degree with 3 running over night :)
I have one card though that is consistently way too hot. Same settings, it goes off the charts in no time.

when i push my 7970 oc editions to i 20 i get hw error :(
-
I find this thread really fascinating. I am sure I know the answer but do you guys even break even on these rigs? Is there part of you that does this for the love of it?
-
when i push my 7970 oc editions to i 20 i get hw error
how much ram are you running? i noticed on my VisionTek 7950 that i got hardware errors on anything past intensity 13. it had 2 gig of ram installed at the time. i swapped the 2 gig into my 5850 rig and installed the 8 gig i removed. i ran the following commands again and voila, intensity of 20 with zero errors. really woke up what i thought was a pos card. seems these cards like a lot of fast ram 8)
for windows, run these from command window. i usually add it to my miner launch .bat files so it runs everytime. probably not necessary though
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
