IMPORTANT - Value Add - Feathercoin for Musicians
-
Initially, I thought about crowdfunding to get my current CD recorded.
I still believe it is a good way to approach the costs, but I have a moral dilemma. (see below)so, BTC\FTC\etc. would be a great method to obtain cash, but I just have a problem feeling like I would be begging for money.
Something I as a musician have too much pride to do.So, by not begging for money, I would have to offer something to those that have contributed.
Other crowd-funded bands\musicians have offered similar (based on level of donations):
- signed copy of the cd
- mention on the website
- mention printed in the cd liner
- name mentioned in the song
- song written for them
- special access to live shows
- special access to band
- dinner with band
- special private gig
and so on…
-
Screw cash. Turn Feathercoins into sandwiches and beer on the road.
Gah I need a white board, a tape recorder, a St. Bernard, and a monocle. Too many ideas all at once. :)
Great ideas. Now how about the technical hurdle? Ok, you’re a local touring band and you would be up to either receiving donations or exchange tips for items such as a private gig and a signed copy of CD. You setup a Feathercoin wallet and you receive your coins. You’re technical, you’ve heard of Bitcoin in passing but wasn’t really interested in learning more.
How do we get those people to accept FTC? If they want to move it to fiat, how do we make it as easy as possible. Yes, it would be great if they left it in FTC… as we build additional services, they will have somewhere to spend it. Right now, that’s not the case. How do we get musicians NOW to say ‘Ok, Feathercoin makes sense’.
I know exactly where you’re coming from, however, that transition isn’t going to happen overnight (please see my post below).

have to educate them in alternative forms of currency.
of course if a bar accepted BTC for beer, then they would get it!something like this:
how about getting food and beer from your next gig without it costing you anything?
(provided the bar accepts (BTC) -
FTC is like a small label band when you think about it. Ultimately, we want FTC to be strong enough on it’s own merit for purchases. Right now, there’s enough BTC merchants that we might encourage them to grab FTC>BTC.
Now, if FTC can be traded for BTC, why not just setup donations for BTC? Again, FTC is the small label (or unassigned band) BTC is LadyGaga or whatever the kids listen to on the radio. :)

This is obviously a large project that won’t happen over night. The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced it’s another great way to get the Feathercoin word out there to the non crypto communities.

I don’t know if this will help, but this guy is trying to help musicians get BTC. I bet someone could do the same thing with FTC…
-
good idea, so whatever the math, a single itunes is .99.
I like this idea. I think this is a completely different idea than what Justabit first brought up, but worth pursuing and see what we can come up with. If we can come up a brand… say feathertracks… develop a support structure and get bands that are willing to post there songs on the site, this could be a big hit.
As far as the band tips idea, do bands normally receive tips at a show? Or is this developing a new idea for people to tip… and then to use ftc as the currency? I have never been part of a band so I’m not for sure.
Tips would go toward some type of sponsor level (similar to what another poster mentioned above). In other words,
x amount of feathercoin - signed cd
y amount of feathercoin - digital download
z amount of feathercoin - sneak peek at band concept artetc…
I also like incorporating the Feathertracks. I say ‘tip’ because it’s up to the band to decide how they want to use the coin…
-
bands don’t usually get tips. there is typically some sort of arrangement in place or compensation at a gig.

I’m thinking once a site like this (or any other) could be established, there are many places to put out the word to the people and artists, such as Reddit, Twitter, Tumblr, facecrook, etc… The only draw back I could think of is finding artists that would accept FTC only, useless there would be a way to convert it for them (I know I may be reiterating here, sorry). Although, getting more people to spend their FTC would do nothing but benefit the overall community, which in turn would attract more users and miners for the currency… I believe finding unique ways for people to spend their FTC is very important for the long run here, as I know many of you have already pointed out… All in all, I think all of our ideas are headed in the right direction:)
As far as tips go, I have always thought it was the same thing as a donation, and I know a lot of bands that accept donations… Come to think of it, I don’t know too many folks that would turn down anything free that has monetary value…

I have 3 bands that we can put up on a site, and can probably get more.
music is what I ‘DO’… after the day job. -
I may need a little help in pushing this outside my regular music circles to get other bands involved.
of the 3 bands I mention, 1 of the bands is mine.
the other 2 are bands I am a member of. -
I’ll need some help formulating an intro.
maybe we take this offline and discuss ‘introduction’ ideas?I’ll have to answer a ton of questions, first one being why should\would we?, and how do we get real money?
lol

Knife Party is selling their album for BTC this week and another artist came out last night offering 50% their release if purchased w/BTC (see me blog). The Indie/small label music scene’s definitely interested in crypto’s.

Tuck, 370H55V and of course Nikel… I’d like to bring you guys into this process. Wesphily, would love your input as well… I just know you’re busy with 9! people on the merchant services team.

This is a really good idea, if we get the first few bands accepting it more will come automatically.
But if anything will happen, it will first have to be easy to adopt.
So 1 click or qr-code scan and a wallet should pop-up with payment address already filled in. -
This will require the Android wallet currently out there to be updated to the new client and for an IOS wallet to be written too.
Has anyone heard from Hank (Android Wallet coder) since the fork?
