Addressing a Member Ban
-
As some of you know, I temporarily banned a member because of personal attacks against other members. I want to be very direct with everyone, that’s the type of decision I take to heart. Aside from spammers, that was the first person I had to issue a ban to since the forum was created. Despite countless PMs from forum members, I wanted this person to have a right to express their feelings about Feathercoin. So just to make sure we’re on all the same page in the future, let me lay out a few examples:
Acceptable:
Feathercoin sucks because it has no potential (ok, we disagree)
Feathercoin is just a cheap copy of Litecoin (ok, sorry you feel that way and waste time on a Feathercoin forum)
Feathercoin is going nowhere (ok, I’m sure someone will want to debate that fact)All reasonable and perfectly acceptable on the forum. Now, let’s take a look at other examples:
Not Acceptable:
Hey user1, F-off you F’n retard
Attacking a person and not the issue will never be acceptable in this forum. If you’re not quite sure or disagree, by all means, drop me a PM. The user I banned broke the code of conduct time and time again. If anything, not issuing a ban sooner was my mistake. By giving endless warnings, I essentially said it was okay.

One of the many problems of being a forum administrator that I have also had to deal with. While bans should be the last resort there needs to be some sort of repercussions for breaking the rules before that. With this being SMF you should have a warning system built in that you can use. You can also allow moderators use of the system as well. I think you did right in giving the person more then one chance, you dont want to come across as heavy handed. If you have any questions on how to use the warning system drop me a PM
