7950 temp..

Hi guys,
I’ve just been wondering; what is yours avg temp on your 7950’s…? My XFX 7950’s get about ~630 kh/s, but are running at 88-90 degrees celsius…!! Isn’t that too high…? The fan is fixed at 100%
I tried messing around with the voltage in CGminer, hoping to bring the temp down - no luck. :( my gpu engine is at 1050, memclock at 1400, thread concurrency 21712 and intensity 19… what can I be doing wrong…?

I would not bother trying to adjust voltages within cgminer. With my 7970s cgminer could not modify the voltages and cant only see stock voltages.
Instead I use MSI Afterburner to control voltages and you can create a custom fan curve so that you don’t need to set your fan to 100% with cgminer.
I went from mid 90s with a box fan blowing on my cards to being able to close the case and let them run around 70-75c. -

Depends what the ambient temperature is and if you have enough space between the cards, your memclock settings are high so that would give out extra heat as far as I know.
Example it was in the high 20’s(Celsius) here yesterday and around lunchtime(hottest part of the day) I had one card read at 90Celsius for a minutes, I cool my shed with an extractor fan and have a 150mm fan on the cards but my hash rate is about 670Khash per card so they are pumping out extra heat with the overclocking, with no overclocking and the same environment they would stay in the 70’s at the hottest, on average in the high 60’s.

I was actually worried that my temps were exceptionally high, but I guess that’s not the case… also my ambient temp is rather high (~23 - 27 C), so I guess that could definitely contribute to the gfx high work temp…
Btw., Rippeddragon, it’s funny that you mention the MSI Afterburner software… I wonder if XFX has anything similar for their cards… using Catalyst Control Center just doesn’t offer anything else besides only the most basic settings - imho it’s actually quite sucky… :(
Oh well - I’ll try to bring down the temp of the room, and play around some more with the memclock and the other settings to see if it helps…

Btw., could anyone please tell me which settings effect the temp of the card the most…? Voltage, ambient temp, etc…? I guess that some things must effect the temp more than others…? -
I’ve had a lot of issues of XFX cards cooling efficiently. On my gaming rig I liquid cool them and they never get much above 60-65 degrees. This obviously isn’t the cheapest way to run your rig so not recommended. Although I have been toying with the idea of making small cases out of poly and sealing my video cards in mineral oil for cooling.
I would say that you really don’t want your cards much above 80 degrees but that you also need to keep them a consistent temperature too.
What sort of case are you using? You may just need some more direct cooling to blow air across the cards, and you want to make certain that hot air is going up and out of the case. If your fans are setup incorrectly you may just be stirring around air in the case but not ever really exchanging air.

[/quote]MSI Afterburner started as just Afterburner. It is an OC utility that works with all graphics cards regardless of manufacture. So even if you are running XFX cards you can still mod them with Afterburner.
Vcore is the biggest influence on a card itself and other than that external room temps can have an impact.

Did anyone find reducing voltage drop the temp a lot?
On my Sapphire Dual X OC and Vapor X 7970s the difference is really dismal or non existent, only power draw drops a lot (like 20% power consumption)
