Building an Rig park from scratch
-
I couldn’t run more than two 7850’s (+mobo, HD, etc) with a 1200 watt Thermaltake - it also kept cutting out under load. When I upgraded to a 1600 watt CoolMax I was able to run 4 cards without issue (might be able to do 5 - haven’t tried).
hmm, i have no problem running 3 cards with 850w, and 4 cards with 1250w (seasonic x1250 HIGH quality), and 7 cards with Enermax Maxrevo 1500w (however the mainboard caugh fire, but this was not the psu’s fault=P)
Keep in mind i run em at stock speed, when you start that overclock tweaking the wattusage skyrockets… according to my killowatt reader i now lay between 800-1000w on my 3card rig. which mean either i keep em at stock speed, or i take one card out and only run two card pr psu (silverstone 850w)EDIT:
Btw i think i located the problem earlier, it seems that one of the pci-e 1x mods was faulty as some of the insulation on the single cable had been cut. Been running over an hour dead stable at 530khash pr card and 77degrees. Only powered the 16x - 16x extender -
Sounds like your thermaltake has some real issues=), 1200w dc power is alot and should be NO problem for 4x 7950, or 3x 7970
-
Yah, I thought so too. But I’ve read that they can draw upwards of 300 watts/each at high intensities so three cards plus the mobo, HD, etc could Potentially max it at full draw. My 1600’s do the trick quite nicely - but they’re not cheap.

Keep an eye on the rails. Just cos a psu says 850, 1200, 1500w etc doesn’t mean it will deliver all of that on a single out put. The seasonic x1250 is single rail so should be ok.
Svennand, you may find that powering all risers meant you were pulling too much power on one of the rails and so tripping the ocp.
If the riser was faulty/shorting you wouldn’t even boot much less get 15 seconds.
What’s the make/model of the psu that’s tripping!

http://www.raidsonic.de/en/products/silverpower.php?we_objectID=8546Might be ur right about, they doesnt say anything about it being single rail.
Works like a charm now, at least i have one powered riser, so i should be fine. -
Hmmm. Website seems to imply single rail but this review shows it as quad +12v rail.
http://www.bjorn3d.com/2008/10/silverpower-sp-s850-power-supply/#.Ucv0p_nvuM4 ???
If so, that’s the problem.

seems to be a “outsourced to china” product delux. everywhere i look
either the packaging/design/psu spec variates. the closest to “my version” is the one
on bjorn3d so most likely its quad rail which would explain it.
also since it only have 4xpcie i need to use some of the molex for adapters.
if its split rails it could be hit or miss scenario…however it works super now. 550khash stock spec, stable and at 77degrees with room temp of 30 degrees (havent gotten aircon jet). will not tweak tough since the psu
are at its watt limit -
Long night ahead
If anyone has set up this: https://forum.litecoin.net/index.php/topic,4092.0.html on a website, pleeeease feel free to pm me=P, been struggling for days now. but only get miner offline. -
Have you started cgMiner with --api-listen/–api-allow?
I figured it out.
Was problem with PHP socket from the webhost supplier, apparently they had to manually open each socket i asked for.
As soon as that port got fixed it worked like a charm! sweeetwhat a sweet plugin. with mail alert support for spesified hash drop, temp limit and so on.
Also you have a complete overlook of each rig with separate card info (hash/temp/stale and so on!)have a looks how mine looks at featherpark.com/monitoring

Seems to be broken… It’s saying coinotron?? :P
hehe as i told you earlier, need coinotron for now while im in the restart/testphase.
I was planning to go back to your pool, but it seems to have died? even yourself has moved to local p2pool adress? -
FFS i freaking hate those pesky multrail psu shit.
If i try to use powered risers, well it reboots randomly. it does not when im not using it, however the 24pin plug is REALLY hot. and i can smell that burned plastic smell.Standing by with fire extinguisher >:(
EEEEEDIT:
Hey what have you been up to lately…
Ohhh nothing just having another barbeq in my basement… brand new mobo just got burned to the crisp again… 3x7950 on 850w psu, everything stock. worked with powered risers part from the restarting randomly part (multiriser issue).
Removed all the powered risers (hey its only 3 cards…) voila bring the marsmallows! And if that aint enough i now have an amazing headache after sniffing for burning smell… burned pcb cant possible be good for health…
I’ve been back for a while. Beauty of p2pool is that it doesn’t matter what node you mine on. It’s all pooled together anyway. If i mine on my own private node it just means lower difficulty on the public node for you guys. I only built the public server so people didn’t need to run and maintain their own. Always best to run your own node if you can. You still get the benefits of my hash power wherever you mine. :)
Mate, speechless. :'( Time to buy a DECENT PSU or 2!
Said it before, say it again seasonic x1250 is the only way to go. It’s a single rail, gold rated, 1250w workhorse that has the full set of 8x pcie power connectors (implying that it is designed to run 4 GPUs) and cool running. They have reliable Sanyo-Denki fans that are engineered to last forever and move loads of air so you’re not gonna seize it up and best of all, even pulling 1350w from the wall, it only exhuasts warm air (the AX1200s i have blow HOT air).
Too many people tripping PSUs and burning stuff by scrimping on the thing that arguably takes the most pounding. Not many PSUs rated at whatever they’re rated at were intended for mining. They need to operate in roasting temperatures, 24/7 at 100%. You can bet yer arse that when the manufacture managed to get his psu to peak at 800watts and so had the stickers printed, he wasn’t expecting us lot to punish them the way we do.
Seasoninc x1250 FTW!! :)

I know have 2x seasonic x1250, excellent psus!
I think i have reach a desition.
Have 3x850w psus, i think theese should be runned with only two cards each with (have enough juice to run powered extenders, before one of the cards where running molex to pcie. Hopefully now that “molex” rail isnt overloaded. Then i have some extra juice to also push the cards beyond stock.
That removes 6 card from my table.
Im then going to build two more rigs with the seasonic x1250 psus which will have 4x cards each. Since 7950 stoock is rated to maximum need 187w there should be more then enough to “push” extra on the rigs. All cards will have powered risers.
That removes 8 card from my table.
Im then going to create and extra rig wih my enermax maxrevo 1500w (very popular mining psu with good ratings) that will run 1x7970 and 4x7950 all with powered risers.
In the end im actually needing to purchase 4 more 7950s ::)
FYI: 187w isn’t the maximum rating for a 7950. When Feathercoin/Scrypt mining, they can pull upto 250w with some decent overclocking. You’ll only pull

i have three killowatt meters to controll whats beeing pulled from socket.
187w should be around maximum draw on stock speed, im allways talking power consumption on the DC side of psu and not what the psu draws from the wall.
(if you where to just read the wall outlet socket 187w = 224.4w if the psu is 80plus certified).
totalt system usage is 100w average, not including gpu.
I do not touch the voltage settings! neither under/overvolt. thats when things go bad and theres a chance your “tweaking” might damage gpu. -
3/4 of my park up and running = Sweet!
