The Most Important Move for Feathercoin - Project newApplication - Read
-
I love being involved with the community. My tradeoff is suspending my training business (that was my 2nd job) to focus completely on Feathercoin. If I didn’t believe this coin was worth at least $2 in the next year, I wouldn’t have made the decision to cut my income drastically. If we’re going to do this, if we’re going to get the Feathercoin name in the hands in the mainstream, I gotta play to win. I’ve worked in CIO roles since the late 90s, I feel I have something to offer on long term planning and execution strategies. I’m so glad to be a part of this group.

This will be a big push :) Love it!

Should have a banner for those that use maaany hours on feathercoin, but in a freelancer way 8)
I for example with two kids, house refurb project, and school am not able to/want to work in teams that rely on me at given times.
Im more of the one that pulls my sleeves up at night when im not overly tired and have the motivation. -
Love that enthusiasm justabitoftime. It’s this infectious enthusiasm that could make a difference when combined with good organisation. Moreover, in other alt-currency communities there’s lots of political and economic theorizing which doesn’t actually contribute anything to adoption. So this pragmatic focus on making the feathercoin currency useful and relatively easy to use for Joe and Jane Public could also make a big difference.
Like Svennand I’m pretty busy between work, family and volunteer commitments, but I’m willing to put in an hour here and there to help move things along. I’ll happily fill out the form when it’s sent through.
peace;

Just be careful that we don’t end up with too many chiefs and not enough Indians or a solution looking for a problem.
I do work for all sorts of organisations, some with as few 50 staff and the project I’m working on now has 65000+ worldwide. The common problem is that there are so many manager/leads/vice presidents/etc that nothing ever gets done.
I think your house example would probably work more like…
1 house manager
3 floor managers
1 dusting manager per floor (as that’s his specialty)
1 pickup manager per floor (as that’s his specialty)
1 vacuum manager …
1 window manager…
Then 4 each of dusters, pickups, etc per floor (1per room)the issue comes when the house manager requests a room to be vacuumed so they delegate the work to the floor manager, he/she then delegates to the appropriate vacuum manager who then speaks to the guy with a dyson. There’s a pair of pants left on the floor though and it’s not his responsibility to do the pickups so he says to the vacuum manager that he can’t do it until the pants are gone. The vacuum manager then speaks to the pickup manager to get the pants picked up… Issue is that the pickup guy is on leave at the moment so they try to draft in a pickup guy from another room but he’s already doing 70 hours a week picking up but he’ll try to help out soon…
Either way I think you get where this ends up. 3 weeks down the line and the room is still a tip.
On the other hand if all that pigeon holeing/micro-managing was not around, the house manager could simply ask jeff to vacuum room 4 and if there are any pants in the way, deal with them accordingly and report back when done.
I’m all for a bit of structure but be careful that we don’t end spending more time managing and talking about it rather than doing it. Everyone wants to be a manager of managers so they all recruit more managers (I call it CV fodder). You end up with more managers than workers. I’ve worked in organisations where there are more VP’s than you can shake a stick at and it’s all about the title rather than function. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Sorry to ramble and sound like a sceptic but I’ve never liked too many tiers of management as the guy at the top never really knows what happens at the bottom (the place where the job is done).

I think there is a need for community input about “what needs to be done by when”, otherwise there won’t be a community.
I think it is important to think of how jobs could be done tactically, we still haven’t a way of deciding what our intermediate goal for the introduction of Feathercoin is, then you work out the strategy needed to achieve that goal.
I believe open source and co-operation is the only way, there’s much too much work to do, for Feathercoin even to work on a small part. Lets concentrate our effort on, improvements and updates to wallets, mining support, inventing the technology needed for “normal” usage of the currency, or some such.
We also need to be flexible, say, fornstance, an opportunity came up for Feathercoin to be the donation currency for a big charity, wiki or Oxfam, we need to capitalise on that opportunity with flexible development and support.
Good information, great break down. Is there really a worry about me doing? :) I understand the different styles, I feel this fits my style best from my professional experience. Each ‘manager’ will have a duty. To be very direct, I tried the approach of less people and more duty here… it doesn’t work when it comes to volunteers.
This approach won’t rely too much one one person or group. There will be enough redundancy in place that if a group isn’t getting it handled, someone else can pickup the slack. This worked well in grassroots campaigns I’ve lead, it should be fine here. [b] If this this was a salary based organization, I’d run it quite a bit differently.
Think of these as progress trees, there’s nothing stopping someone from leading this initiative:
“Lets concentrate our effort on, improvements and updates to wallets, mining support, inventing the technology needed for “normal” usage of the currency, or some such.”
I hope someone picks up the ball and runs with it. Until then, I’ll grab who I can to help meet objectives. I’m not sure everyone fully understands how much time it takes to get processes moving when working with volunteers.
I can’t stress this enough:
Notice in the org chart, the top is community. Do… your… own… thing. I encourage it. In the meantime, I’m grabbing those that want to follow my tree and accomplish goals.
I’m just some guy… anyone can take the lead on projects. Heck, someone could have brokered a partnership arrangement with other coins. At any time, my time could have been reduced and I would have been dancing in the streets. :) *sigh* It didn’t… always a lot of great ideas, but it forced me to spend a few weeks mapping out ideas against the development team and doing it.
I’m all about community, I’m also addressing the countlesss PMs I’m getting throughout the day asking ‘what is being done’. With this many people, I’m not going to make everyone happy.
I appreciate everyone, I encourage you to be the next ‘JustaBit’ in terms of pushing ideas forward. Grab some people, convince them to volunteer time and GO GO GO!
That’s why I asked for grunt work in the application. ;)
Can’t wait for this to roll out, I’m itching to get going. Move it people get those applications filled in.
