Steer away from XFX 7xxx series.

If i where you i would have ordered arctic accelero 7970/7950 coolers. Nice to have ready when the xxx fan dies. Which its seems to do:P
I cant push any of my xfx above I18 (whi give me less output than I13) anything above 18 just shatters cgminer with hw error. Tried all kinds of cgminer editions/driver edition/reinstall and so on. Xfx is just not ment to be:P

This is some funny shit, I never noticed the XFX fire on box before, that is so damn accurate, when I was building my last rig the one message I was seeing on all of the forums was to stay clear of XFX for mining.

Lol if you own an XFX and doesnt like the cooling solution. DOOOO buy an Arctic Accelero 7970 cooler.
Temp went from 83degress at 500khash and noisy fan, to 54 degress at 500khash(2000rpm on fans… near silent)
Same cgminer settings, it does however looks like i can really push this card some more now=PEDIT:
tweaked gpu from 925 to 1100, and memory from 1375 to 1700. still 56 degrees and 2000rpms… loooove itHowever i still only get 30more hash, XFX gotdamn piece of bad hw.
Hehe XFX cards are excellent for frying eggs with stock cooling, you dont even have to push the card…
If you however change the cooling to Arctic Accelero 7970 you will once again use a microwave/frying pan to make your food, since your card is cool! Will purchase 16 more of those coolers for all the other cards i have=)

How much you paying for them? Cheapest I can find is about £60 for the 7970. :o
That’s £1200 for me. :'(

I have an XFX Core Edition Radeon HD 7950 3GB DDR5… (etc.)
People always told me to evade xfx cards, and I don’t know about the 79xx cards, but I own a 7850 Core Edition (Same “ghost” cooler as the 7950), as that was the only card i didn’t have to wait 3 months to get (Here in Argentina, due to import restrictions, they can easily take 45 days to clear customs…)
I’m running it at -I 18 (Never been able to get it past that), 1200/1250 +20 powertune and getting a constant 385KH/s @82C and fan hard limited (via trixx) to 90%.
Its been running for 3 months so far, with very short resting times due to power/internet outages, and hasn’t failed me once…
I’m either lucky, or the mathematical exception that confirms the “XFX suck for mining” rule.
39£ here
Went to check on my card, been running since last night at 1100/1700.
Was really thinking i would se high temps.
well 12 hours running = got down 1 degree more (at 55degrees and whisper noice!) -
Have a XFX HD7970 Ghost (Double Dissipation GHz Edition). Both fans were crap. Replaced, not much improvement. Although it can o/c to 1100MHz with proper cooling, the damn thing overheats and fails repeatedly with the manufacturer’s one even at the default 1000MHz consuming almost 300W of power. Now I see it hashing at 800MHz / 85°C with the fans at 4000rpm and want to do something bad to the developers of so called “Ghost thermal technology”. Vapour chambers do no good if engineered badly.
i havent been able to get mine above 510khash…
Have put em both on the used marked, and ordered me some new greater cards.
