First Project: Find out who left us and how to bring them back

I’ve contacted a few people that I was able to figure out via Bitcointalk pm but so far none of them have responded to me. I’ll continue to knock on people’s doors though.
Thank you. If we keep knocking, eventually they’ll have to answer the door. I’m hoping the big push will give the miners additional confidence in the coin.
Had a long conversation last night with someone in the Trollbox called physical0:
http://trollboxarchive.com/byid.php?id=3496161
He is a miner and also quite a smart guy all round. He expressed concerns over FTC saying that early coins, about 1m, were mined at zero difficulty and that this undermined the social contract. We have heard this ‘genesis theory’ quite a bit in the discourse. Essentially it states that regardless of the intentions of the founders of a coin if it has a bad start it will prove fatal to the coin, ‘the sequence of early moves count and a good start is half the way there’ to paraphrase.
I will continue to talk to him and get his feedback but this is the sentiment I am picking up.
Hope this help.
ETA
Sorry should just add his argument rests on the assumption that trust is vital to the success of a coin. That in order to gain that trust you need to adhere to a ‘social contract’. -
I’m surprised physical0 is still on the zero difficulty thing. I had forgotten that he was the one I had the “zero difficulty” discussion with early in May and I was pretty sure he was in agreement that Feathercoin was not at zero difficulty like he claimed.
With the assistance of Bushstar I was able to show him that the website he was claiming showed FTC on “0” difficulty for a long time was because the website only shows four decimal places, whereas if you use the client’s debug tool you see the whole picture.
I’m going to quote Bush’s PM here, I don’t think he’ll mind …
The client shows the full eight decimal points where as the cryptocoin explorer does no so it looks like the difficulty did not change for 6000+ blocks. He is good at finding chinks in our armour and wonder why he dedicates so much time to it. I’m sure he realizes that the explorer is inaccurate.
To get the blocks in the client go to the debug window, run getblockhash 6000, copy the hash you get as the response and then run getblock with the hash pasted after. It will then show you the details of that block. You can see that the difficulty actually has changed.
Bush
Do the above on all the block #'s he throws at you and see for yourself, I did.
And you will see it was not at zero difficulty as he continues to claim for some reason. I wish I had remembered him when I was in that discussion the other day in trollbox. Once you shoot down the zero difficulty he will go into the blocks being completed at a rate faster than anticipated. Can’t deny that, never did and that was already covered in our discussion we had in mid-May and at that point I exited the conversation. We’re all aware miners took advantage of the low difficulty early on. No one’s denying that, it’s the reason for the hard fork.
Physical0’s seems like a ok guy and I understand his concerns. I just don’t think he’s ever going to find PerfectCoin, but I feel Feathercoin will end up being the closest to a perfect coin.
Ah fantastic all good info. I think he can be persuaded actually. What might be good is to have a Myth Busting section to the website -not volunteering just yet ;) - so that we can tackle these issues head on, a bit like the Bitcoin Website. BrotherJohnF did a great video where he pretty much went through them all.
Let me go dig it out…

Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIkKu902TC0&list=UU2ORQrqEEJ168UCXJfJdNtQ&feature=player_detailpage#t=462s
Also I want to add that Feathercoin has what every startup would love: attention! The worst thing of all is when people ignore you, not having bad publicity. I think we have just the right amount of controversy and as a philosopher I am loving the debate. The more we take this the stronger we get.
I think we should have a section on our site like the Bitcoin a video taking people through it so that when someone undecided gets caught up in the crossfire and hears the FUD they can follow our link to the argument in the defence and find the truth for themselves.
We are a curious species that loves to uncover truth.

I added this “myth” about zero difficulty to the wiki. I’m not a guru on it so I’d appreciate it if someone else joined the wiki and filled in more info on it. :)
