Mining questions
-
I am trying to figure out this feathercoin mining/pooling. I am using cgminer 3.6.6 and have been running it for over 12 hours (seems to be active). On the site my hashrate appears as zero. Is there a delay and/or I’m I doing something totally wrong?
Next question, I have been looking for a script (unsuccessfully) that will allow me to pool mine with you which would: automatically start itself, minimize, and run appropriately if my computers reboot. I have three servers that I could use and run 24/7. Please advise.
Any other suggestions that a “pro” might have on maximizing my hashrate I would appreciate it. I do have funds I can invest if needed for equipment.
Thanks in advance,

Thanks for the quick reply. I updated the batch file and will see what happens. My end goal is to let my servers run 24/7 (if cost effective). I am still a bit confused with GPU verses CPU mining and which is best. I will eventually figure things out! :)
Thanks again!

See attachment…this is what my cgminer looks like after the modifications. I am still not mining. Any additional tips?

Could you please post your batch file to see how you start cgminer?
-
Here you go (I also attached the file):
color 02
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
start /min C:\Users\Main\Desktop\cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://pool.d2.cc:3333 -u miner.1 -p x

Personally I never run anything newer than cgminer 3.3.1. All later ones give me grief.
As for CPU vs GPU, you should forget CPU for scrypt. A CPU might get you 20khs, GPU would be upto 760khs.
Now, on to your issue, can you give us more info in regard to hardware, OS, driver versions, etc…
-
Hm. That looks strange. Do you have a cgminer.conf configuration file somewhere? Not sure where it’s located under Windows - but for a start, that batch file looks good.

Here you go (I also attached the file):color 02
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
start /min C:\Users\Main\Desktop\cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://pool.d2.cc:3333 -u miner.1 -p x
Your intensity is still negative. Change your start line to:
start /min C:\Users\Main\Desktop\cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://pool.d2.cc:3333 -u miner.1 -p x -I 13
Adding the “-I 13” flag to set intensity to 13
Could also help you tweak specific settings if you let us know what kind of video card you are running.
^ this seems to be your problem, scrypt uses intensity values from 0 to 20

Thanks for all the help! I will try the modifications this evening to see what happens. The system I am currently working on: AMD Athlon II Neo K325 Dual-Core, 4.00GB RAM, NVIDIA ION.
I have NOT been able to locate the .config file and my .bat file appears as .bat.txt. Not sure if that’s an additional problem.
I also have the available systems below. I can use all and/or I can pick and choose the best ones. I can also invest a few dollars if necessary. Please advise.

I made the adjustments as suggested to my .bat file and ran the file. When I do I receive an error message. See attachment. When I run the cgminer.exe I also receive an error but the screen closes quickly. My .bat looks like the following:
color 02
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
start /min C:\cgminer\cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://ca.nut2pools.com:5565 -u miner.1 -p x -I 13I am not sure if I need to add a worker name and password with the .bat script. Please advise on this.
Thank again for the continual support!

That makes sense. I updated the .bat to:
color 02
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
start /min C:\cgminer\cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://pool.d2.cc:3333 -u jgnorton.1 -p 123 -I 13It seems like a got one step further. I am now greeted by a new message. The second error occurs when I hit enter. See attachments.
I greatly appreciate this help!
These systems are your biggest problem here, I doubt that even if you got these old GPUs to work you wont make money. CPU mining in scrypt earns almost nothing and burns a ton of power. All NVIDIA gpus are borderline not able to make back what they use for power depending on electricity costs. You will have to find an old version of CGMiner to mine on your CPUs and if you want to use the GPUs good luck, it does not even seem like you know whats actually in the computers. The only thing on here that might be able to hash half way decently is the “Graphics Nvidia GeForce 8300GS” and even that wont break even on electricity use or generate more than a few cents a day. Im sorry but with system specs like those its really not worth your time or money to hash. If you are intent on using these systems please go buy some AMD 7000, R7, or R9 series video cards and put them in the pci-e 16x slots that you have.

Thanks for the honest reply Rippeddragon. I realize I have some old systems available for usage. My current goal is to learn how to set-up a miner and start hashing. My end goal is to create/set-up a system that will be worth my time and money. I hope to learn that here.
If I may challenge you (or anyone else) what hardware set-up would you recommend (I would run a linux os)? Many forums out there suggest a variety of set-ups but most are bitcoin focused and/or not real clear. My focus is Feathercoin.
I am also testing out the cgminer/cudaminer suggestions and will report back.
Thanks in advance.

J
A great resource that helped me get started was these two sites.
https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison
http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrencythis will tell you what popular hardware is capable of hashing then you can do some math and plug it into coinwarz and see if its profitable currently. remember to enter your energy costs accurately!
I used Litecoin BAMT Windows and MAC. I mainly use windows, but you really dont get huge benefits from using one or the other ( at least with my cards ). with BAMT(linux live) you can cut out the need for a hard drive and run more then 4 cards on a single PC. Make sure to get the litecoin BAMT as its made for script coins (Litecoin and Feathercoin are mined the same way so they use the same software. Since Litecoin has been around longer you might want to do a google search with that rather Feathercoin).
Now for CGminer settings. What everyone has told you is great for testing but for long term its best to split it into a batch file and config file.
The first batch will look like this. where you point to the config file.
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1cgminer --config C:\cgminer\Configs\feather_NoUse.conf
and the config can look something like this (mine is specific to my graphics card)
{
“pools” : [
{
“url” : “stratum+tcp://yourwebsite.com:3333”,
“user” : “anglo.1”,
“pass” : “x”
},
{
“url” : “stratum+tcp://yoursecondwebsite.com:3333”,
“user” : “anglo.2”,
“pass” : “x”
},
]
,
“intensity” : “19”,
“vectors” : “1”,
“worksize” : “256”,
“kernel” : “scrypt”,
“lookup-gap” : “2”,
“thread-concurrency” : “21712”,
“shaders” : “1792”,
“gpu-engine” : “1080”,
“gpu-fan” : “0”,
“gpu-memclock” : “1250”,
“gpu-memdiff” : “0”,
“gpu-powertune” : “20”,
“gpu-vddc” : “1.090”,
“temp-cutoff” : “95”,
“temp-overheat” : “85”,
“temp-target” : “75”,
“api-listen” : true,
“api-allow” : “W:127.0.0.1”,
“api-port” : “4028”,
“ndevs” : “1”,
“expiry” : “120”,
“gpu-dyninterval” : “7”,
“gpu-platform” : “0”,
“gpu-threads” : “1”,
“hotplug” : “5”,
“log” : “1”,
“no-pool-disable” : true,
“queue” : “1”,
“scan-time” : “60”,
“scrypt” : true,
“temp-hysteresis” : “3”,
“shares” : “0”,
“kernel-path” : “/usr/local/bin”
}
The power of this is you can easily control the settings of your cgminer and keep them more organized. You can also set multiple pools in case one goes down ( and they go down often )

Thanks Angloblaxon!
Your comments on the .config/.bat files really did clear things up for me! My biggest problem is getting a cgminer working. It now freezes on me. I will test an older version along with a newer version in hopes I will find a solution soon. I I have also decided to build a machine to make mining worth my time/effort. -
my example config had my video card settings. forgot to mention that. if you are unsure about a setting in the config file set it to 0 (auto) or just remove it. to achieve a working cgminer with low end hardware try removing everything from the config and tinkering with just the shaders, worksize, and intensity. Id start with 0, 64, and 12.
