R9 290 mining questions

94C will greatly reduce the lifespan of your graphics card!
Give them more space to breathe. A temperature of about 70C would be good. -
Its in a haf case, the system temp is 26c and cpu temp is 29c, so theres no impact on the system environment.
The cards known for running very hot at full power. Problem is even mining at “low” (600 khash) its rising upto 93c :o
Guess i will try to the custom fan again and see how that crashed

Haha, been there, tried that… 7990 in a HAF-x… Check, 1.3MHs on 1 card… Check… temps outta control… Check… Water cooling the cards… Check… ;D
Still at 75c with 1x 360mm rad and a 1x 120mm rad. Silent though!

all i can sa is that my 7990 still runs mining 24/7 at 102 degrees.
been doing it for over 3 months ::) -
I was looking at 7990s and RS290s but the price and power use meant I’d need to not only increase power costs but also get a higher watt PSU and spend more.
As for temps. The “danger zone” of cards catching fire is probably a little higher than 95C and in the case of the R9 290 I’d expect it to be quite a bit higher since the card runs under heavy gaming around 94C I’m seeing reports of online.
Now a 7950 or 7970 running those temps, that’d be a concern for card damage.

Ok, ive given up trying to run 2 different cards together mining (R9 290 and 6870), the best i could get was an unresponsive system at 950khash, and only through cgminer with the pool not responding to the second GPU… So pointless doing so.
Guiminer wouldnt work for me with 2 different cards, second card refused to start, and if you trick it to start in 2 different sessions (enabling and disabling cards in device manager) then theres more graphic card recovery crashes. Its strange because i can mine with these 2 different cards with the Bitminter java client for bitcoin (not that i would want to, just that it works perfectly and responsively), maybe Bitminter will update their client for Scrypt one day for the casual miners ::)
Until then im selling the 6870, its not worth the hassle for 280khash more, and put the money partly towards another card… or an oculus rift maybe. -
I see more problems when using the 290x … :(

In my experience - dual GPU cards are a nightmare. They just run really hot and spank the hell out of the VRMs. If you want to laugh at temps, fire up GPU-z and check your VRM temps! Thet’ll make the Core temp look cool. ;D
