Difficulty Stability question.
-
I was about to start mining Litecoin in a serious way, however the difficulty all of a sudden took a leap forward. So I am now hesitant as I know the asic chips for the scypt used by litecoin are going to be out soon, and thus another jump in difficulty will occur. (much like with bitcoin).
So since I am looking to start some serious mining, I would first want to know if Asic chip mining will ever be possible with Feathercoin?
Basically I want to mine without the worry of a huge difficulty increase.
Any help here would appreciated.

Hey,
I think if the asics Will come out for litecoin and supported by miners like cgminer
It Will also serve for feathercoin cause there the Same coin type. I dont think they
Will make it coin based cause that Will be à bad market strategy. So i get my rig this week to still get the (easy) cheap coins here. And i still see à lot potential into FTC only these whales are damn heavy. :o
Good Luck with your choice and hopefully you help us on the train. 8)

I have argued in past discussions that ASICs are inevitable. The GPU is the start up phase, where more experimental coins are tried.
Some coins might react by adding extra difficulty that the ASICs can’t handle. But changing such a fundamental feature once established is virtually unheard of.
ASICs will actually benefit the coins. Lite coin protected its self from attack by Bitcoin ASIC by changing the algorithm. Feathercoin also made tweeks to prevent attack. However, these are Old Faults, in the future it is going to be frowned upon to steal coins, like any other theft.
ASIC such as USB devices, will make it to establish at merchants and 3rd world. Thousand of small USB erupers would secure the network beter than one mighty pool.
Also merchants will automatically tend to mine as it is incentivised, because they get the transaction fee , not the bank or paypal.
They will also come to understand, mining, secures the network and reduces their confirmation times. Thousands of small miner > one big pool.
Are you saying that the Asic Miners that are now being made for Litecoin mining will or will not work with feathercoin mining.
-
They will, Litecoin and Feathercoin share the same hashing algorithm, Scrypt.
-
Yes. LTC is based on the Scrypt algorithm and so is FTC, so any LTC ASIC miner will most likely work with FTC too.
It could be a couple of months before we start seeing any real LTC ASICs being shipped to customers. But yea it will happen … Sooner or later. And thats not a bad thing!

This one is for both litecoin and feathercoin.
Their products are only 1MH/s-10MH/s? That’s just GPU competition. I’m sure that people are developing GH/s scrypt miners, not MH/s.I suppose it depends how much each unit costs, and how much it costs to run as well. A 2MH/s GPU rig can cost as little as $1000 (lets say £800), so these units have to be competitively priced. Even though it can sit in my loft in it’s unracked form, I expect serious buyers will have to buy a rack as well, which is more cost. Initially, looking at their specs, I don’t think they look like a good investment (but I haven’t seen the price yet I guess).
