A self sustaining growing rig
-
My plan is to start slow… This is probably the 3rd day I’ve been involved in feathercoin mining
I have a r9 270 coming…
In the mean time, I have my laptop, and two computers using mostly CPU mining. One of them has two NVIDIA cards that I’m setting up to use cudaminer. But right now, i’m pulling just under 250h/s total. I know, not much.
I don’t have the cash to spend $1000 on a rig. What are the probabilities that I can use feathercoin mining to sustain enough earnings to slowly build a $1000 rig in say…mmmm 6 months?
Or do I just need to suck it up and throw what I can to it up front?
I mean, I’m not gonna go homeless trying to build this thing, but there also isn’t a lot extra right now either.
Thoughts?
Thanks

I would get the basics first to build on.
Good board to get started with would be this:

Then grab a basic processor:

Some cheap ram:

Dont skimp on the power supply, maybe start with one of these:

That should run you $150 for the basics and alittle over $300 with the psu. If possible salvage an old hard drive or grab a small refurb for around 30-40 if you can find one. The rest of the money can go toward graphics cards and risers to mine with. This way you have a basic computer without too much invested at the start, then as you make more and build funds, then you can add graphics cards on later and possibly a bigger power supply.

Looks like a great mobo, but I can’t seem to find it for under $120. Although newegg has it for $60, but they are out of stock. I’ll keep looking.
Thanks for the suggestion.

What you can do with Newegg is sign up for the Auto notify on the product. As soon as it gets back in stock they will alert you. :)

Didn’t know they had that. I’ll do it.

Priorities man.
Buy the basics and start with one card. Then try to expand one card each month until you max out rig. Then do the same over and over again until you reach the result you desiree.
Thanks. I think you’re probably right. Slowly but surely…even though I just want to jump into it.
I’m with mmyhre on this one, get the basics right from the start. Then add GPU’s as and when you have the funds, something I didn’t do because I got impatient and now I need to go get another MoBo before I can expand over 2 GPU’s ;D
Another thing to remember, at this scale it’s only for fun! so make sure your still having fun playing around with it
