Windows vs Linux

OK so I did a search on the forums. I found that there was poll done and that Linux was the winner of the poll, but it appeared that it was the winner by preference, not by performance.
Is it safe to conclude, that for performance there is no clear winner?
BTW, I have no real preference to Windows or Linux. I am just trying to determine an optimal set up.

I found the same, windows v. slightly better. AMD made linux version compatibility bad for me, I ended with a strict 12.04, to the book set-up. No updates!.
The “better” drivers were the dominant factor, for efficiency. Its seems very close through, so I have one rig linux one windows.

I’m running 25% windows and 75% Linux. Found that my problems seem about par for either, but so far windows 7 has been giving slightly higher khash.
Can Linux use higher numbers of GPU?

I can’t find a definitive answer on Windows GPU counts, some people are saying 4 but this has now been overcome, then they don’t go on to say what the new limit is ::)
64-bit Linux is limited to 8 GPUs, 32-bit is limited to 4 GPU’s
