R9 270 - Tweaking - \[BAMT SMOS\]

Got it up to 480KH/s buy changing to thread concurrency to 16000. Weirdly if I use the same settings in Windows I get HW errors all over the shop! At the moment, using BAMT I have 0.00% invalid shares. I presume this mean I’m not getting hardware errors as I can’t see any HW error reporting in the browser monitering tool?
Oh excellent!
BAMT SMOS FTW
Nice going ahy!.

Also, I think there’s a way to set up SMOS so it auto starts mining when it powers up. Just not sure how to do it. Haven’t looked into it.Tonight, I’ll have a look through your conf and see if I can suggest any tweaks.
After some research it would appear SMOS starts mining automatically when it starts.

I now have the amount of power the whole rig draws.
230 Watts
480Khash/s
75°c. -
Thats low wattage! Well done!
It is? Well that’s good. I’m still yet to learn about/try out under volting so hopefully I’ll get this running even more efficiently. Hopefully I’ll pick up my second 270 tomorrow, so I’ll see how the watts go from there.
-
I’ve got my second card in now… Catch is, the pool tells me I’m hashing between 950 and 1050. But cgminer/smos can’t see it. It’s simply not registering in the terminal. its not giving me any indication I’m mining.
I know I am hashing though. The cards spun up and my pool is reporting im accepting shares. so this is all a bit strange. I’m thinking of trying a different usb distro…
oh. I’m still using about 235 watts as well.
-
Did you run
aticonfig --adapter=all --initial -f
again ?
what does
cgminer -n
say -
I’ll have a look.
Is this to be run from terminal or does the aticonfig line go in my bamt.conf?
It’s registering both of my gpu’s on 0 and 1. but yeah. when i start the miner nothing detects the hashes… just my pool… all though, i think i made a change somewhere and now that’s not even working… ive turned it all off for a bit but ill check out those 2 lines soon and let you know.
thank you for your help ahy
so the first line i put into terminal pumped out this
unitialised file found, configuring.
using /etc/x11/xorg.conf
and also saved a backup but i havent bothered typing out this line.
cgminer -n
file not found.do i need to navigate to a directory other than home?
-
I also get this when starting and stoping the miners. Also when restarting the miner.
cp: target “backup.conf” is not a directory.
Haven’t noticed it till i put in the second card.
ive also done the bit with the conf where you need to put cgminer: 1 in each spot for the gpu’s and yeah. i think i need to get a fresh defult setup and start from scratch. i thought it was just gonna work when i added in the new bits in the conf file.
But yeah. im definitely hashing. my pool is giving me stats… I can hear/see the gpu fans spin up. I’m drawing 240 watts now.
I’m happy that im hashing but i would really like to see whats going on rather than relying on the pools stats.
Yes run it from the command line like
sudo aticonfig --adapter=all --initial -f
Also run the cgminer command from the command line but you might find it first in its directory somewhere and then
sudo ./cgminer -n
And don’t forget to reboot after the aticonfig
-
Ok it spat out some information. A bunch of things arent happy but it see’s my 2 gpu’s.
Iceweasil is having issues posting on the forum here so i can’t copy n paste it all over. what am I looking for?
OK so I rewrote my bamt smos distro onto a new usb.
Booted from that.
Chucked in my worker info on the cgminer.conf
Fixed up the bamt.conf to use cgminer and gpu’s 0 and 1.Ran this in terminal
sudo aticonfig --adapter=all --initial -f
Rebooted. Nothing seemingly.
Ran this in terminal after navigating to the cgminer directory.
sudo ./cgminer -n
Rebooted again and jumped into the bios and set the on board hdmi to be used. Then the monitor wasn’t picking up anything but with final reboot and having the monitor hooked into gpu 0’s hdmi, bang!
Everything is working now! LXTerminal is reporting both gpu’s, I see green text and temps and speeds and its all sweet.
GPU 0 is cooking hot at 78 celsius and gpu 1 is at about 69 celsius.
I don’t have my tweaks running so I’m at 430Khash/s for both cards. Total speed. 860 Khash/s drawing 390 watts.
+1 rep prensel.
Thank you for your help. It was muchly appreciated! Next step… adding the tweaks :D

Wow, I missed out on this (doing support) I haven’t been looking at mining. [BAMT SMOS]
Has it been announced? Chrisj is looking for stuff for News, this should be in!..
Wow… Brilliant.
-
Thought i would mention… BAMT SMOS will mine litecoin for 15 mins at 3am local time for the dev of the distro.
The line of code can be removed out, but its a standard donation thing that comes bundled in… many are claiming its a scam and that its not mentioned but the guy who did this has clearly posted on the main site that his setup will auto mine ltc for 15mins at 3am local time. but If it impacts on me too much i might remove it. i might not. its worth it considering the speeds it gets for me… that and the drivers and everything for R9 cards are all ready packaged in.

Small update.
Note to self… need risers…
GPU0 temp: 90c
GPU1 temp: 69cTotal hashrate: 960Khash/s
Total Watts: 460 wattsThese temps are getting dangerously high… This is with cold air been pushed over em as well.
A riser is required.
If I left the speeds un-tweaked, then maybe I wouldn’t worry so much. But 90c is just a little to close to 100c…
-
That 90c is too high.
Drop some engine or memory ticks to be safe.
You can also try to lower the intensity with 1 or 2 -
Dropped:
intensity -> 18
engine -> 1100
memclock -> 1400Concurrency is still 16000
GPU0 temp: 78c
GPU1 temp: 67cTotal hashrate: 760Khash/s
Total Watts: 395 wattsSo I’ve lost about 100Khash/s from each card but I feel confident they won’t die/fry overnight.
I’ll put my tweaks back up to my “max settings” once I get a riser to give them some breathing room.
Thanks again prensel!
edit
I turned off the aircon and GPU0 shot up to 84c instantly…
I’ve shut down the whole miner for tonight. They need risers.
If they were in there own machine each, then the heat is fine. But together, it’s too much without rising them away from each other.
Tomorrow, I might just run it as a 1 card system until I get said riser.

You may have mentioned this already, but are you running linux via thumb drive?
