Motherboard wont power up
-
Hi Guys,
Just received my PSU, a Consair 1200i.
I connect everything to the MB including memory, all pci-e connectors for the cards, CPU fan and 12v connector for the board. So to me everything looks like it is connected correctly.
I try to power on and its like the motherboard is dead. One thing, when I do a power test on the PSU the fan on the PSU spins and the green light comes on, when I plug the 24 pin connector into the MB the power test fails as in the fan does not spin.
Has anyone ever hit this problem?
Cheers.
I have this on one mobo, i have to physical plug 24pin out and in again with PSU on, that will hotstart it. Have to do this every bloody time:), but it works.

I have a gigabyte 990fx ud3 connecting to a corsair 1200i
I just ran this test to check the PSU
Corsair Video FAQ: How to test a Corsair power supplyThe PSU works fine, so the problem is a signal is not being sent from the motherboad.
Connected to the motherboard is the 24 pin connector and the 8 pin 12v connector, this should be enough to power up right?

what do you mean with 12v connector for the board?
CPU power i guess.
Did you try disconnect all cables and connect them all again? sometimes did solve my issues :P
24 pin connectors don’t need the 12v 4 pin connector (as at my Corsair RM750 was a warning not to connect the 4pin cpu connector on 24 pin mobos). It’s only needed if the mobo has only a 20 pin connector.
Does the mobo screaming for help? (say it is beeping?)

Yea tried disconnecting all the connectors and putting them back in again.
I have a 12v 8pin connector, sounds like I don’t need it so.I’m starting to think its an issue with the motherboard, its not sending a signal to be powered on.
I have googled it and I think I’ve checked everything, the MB is not hitting of any metal that would mess it up, the PSU is working and not faulty. I’m pretty sure you don’t need a power switch for the motherboard? I mean it should power on once the power is switched on at psu.
Its not beeping or making any noise.
Pulling my hair out here :)

If nothing happens, maybe a faulty mobo, or a faulty psu… or a faulty component like a faulty gpu…
try other cpu, gpu, ram… if this not helps i would say the mobo is faulty.
And as if you say the mobo don’t beeping, it’s more likley the mobo - normaly if the bios is booting it would announce failure with beep-codes - check if the speaker is connected to the mobo.

So I have figured out that it is definitely not the PSU, using the paper clip trick into the Green and Black wire on the 24pin connector I was able to start up the PSU and power up a sata hard drive. So PSU is fine.
Its only when I plug the 24pin connector into the motherboard that no power gets to the MB.
A mate of mine helped and we had some success when we removed the 4 pin connector that makes up part of the 24 pin connector to the MB, this powered but we got no BIOS boot. The MB should power up with all 24 pin connectors, somethings not right with it.Also, we got around not having a power switch by using a bridge at the F panel so this motherboard does need a start switch but we got around that.
Think I will send this board back and ask for a new one. -
Just to give an update on this, I managed to get it working. I took everything apart and “bread boarded” the system adding one component at a time, it all worked in the end with all fans spinning and the system POST’ing (except for one GPU, which Ill ask about in a different post as to keep everything separate).
So all that’s left now is to install the software and kick it off. Ill put a pic of it in the rig picture forum.
