Gigabyte or Sapphire 280x
-
If you are going for the 280x don’t go for the Vapor. the new line has an updated BIOS with an overheat lock. so your hashrate will drop at 75C
don’t know if it’s the same for the dual an toxic. -
I have both, so far I had 2 Gigabyte burned.
Sapphire (Toxic) still run fine.It seems there is a design issue with Gigabyte 280x card (same as 7970). Voltage regulators are burning. Each time the same one at the same place (and I am not the obnly one to get this).
I was a Gigabyte addict. Now I prefer Sapphire.Happy Mining! :)

GIGA’s fan is just OK

those are pretty high RPM levels. I would keep the temp at around 70/75 with some lower RPM levels. your cards will love u for it ;D -

My machine cant use afterburner, so I can’t set the fan rpm curve as my 7970 did.
But I’ll try setting temp target later, never used the command before, but I guess it will try to make temp to be fixed, right?
just add something like this to your .bat–temp-cutoff 95 --temp-overheat 85 --temp-target 75
You can play around with the values to get the correct temp/RPM/Hash config
or use some Fan lines like --gpu-fan 65-100
as long as you get the temp at >70 and a lower RPM without droppin the Kh/s ;)

I have 4 Gigabytes pushing out 720 kh per card under 2000 rpm thanks to flashing the bios to 1.050 volt… if you are not afraid of flashing I would highly recommend the gigabyte with a seasonic 1250
-
I dont know if the sapphires come voltage locked but I know the gigabyte ones do and I will probably not bother getting more of them because of it. I have flashed the bios but I would prefer them to just work in afterburner.
-
link to the bios? :)

I have 3 gigabyte r9 280x’s not really to fond of them frankly. :/
I know the Vapor is and I thought I read something about the whole line beeing locked (toxic, dual) Correct me if i’m wrong though.
I haven’t heard or experienced that. None of my 8 280X Vapor-X cards came voltage locked. No problem undervolting them with Trixx or Afterburner. 6 of them have BIOS version 015.039 (steady ~745KH/s) and 2 of them are newer and have BIOS version 015.041 (only ~720KH/s).
I also have 6 280X Dual-X cards and none of them came voltage locked either. However I have to use Trixx to undervolt these as Afterburner doesn’t seem to work for Dual-X cards. This is a bit unfortunate as Trixx sometimes “forget” the undervolt setting after reboot so I rather use Afterburner.
okey! I have the 015.041 Bios. but how in gods name do you get them running at 720KH/s without reaching the built in temp lock of 75C?
and wich voltage are you using in aftherburner? -
I am gonna be returning one for a new card cause the fans making a vibrating / clicking noise. I dont like that they are voltage locked. Other than that they run at 700 solid with minimal tweaking.

I am actually considering turning a big chunk of my FTC assets into a nice FTC mining rig consisting of three 280x Toxics. So far I see a lot of positive stuff about them (and the design makes my mouth water, it just looks so damn cool IMO :P ) but I would like to know if these would be the best cards to go for?
How many Kh/s do you get with a properly tuned Sapphire 280x Toxic? (I checked the hardware comparison chart but was unable to find any info on the Toxic)
Is it worth the money or would you recommend a different card?EDIT: changed “this” to “these”. Gawd, my English teacher would slap me for that.

For anyone who is interested, I ended up ordering three Sapphire 280x’s from Newegg and they should be getting here soon. I will let you all know how the performance is.

I’m using these parameters in cgminer:
–scrypt --thread-concurrency 8193,8192 -I 13,13 -g 2 -w 256 --gpu-engine 1044,1080 --gpu-memclock 1500,1500 --gpu-powertune -20,-20 --auto-fan --temp-cutoff 90,90 --temp-overheat 85,85 --temp-target 70,70 -o stratum+tcp://coinotron.com:3337 -u xxxxxxx -p xxxxxxxThe first GPU is 015.041 and second 015.039. Both undervolted to 1.131v. Could probably do a bit better on the 015.041 card since it starts at 1.2v and the other starts at 1.25v (i think) but I keep it simple by using the same settings on both cards.
They are now both running at 68 degrees (celsius) in an open rig with lots of space in between the cards. No external fan. I will put in a third card in between them when I get my ordered risers and then I may start using an external fan.
Okey thankyou verymuch! this will help me out allot. +1 Rep!
