Any Feathercoin miners in the NYC metro area?
-
Hello my fellow Fearthcoiners!
I need help setting up a rig in my studio as i’m a newb.
I want to give someone in our community a opportunity to do this job first.
I’ll pay FTC for your services to help me set this up. Please pm me if your interested.Wasn’t sure if I should put this on the feathercoin market or here. :)
Cheers,
S&H -

Welcome to mining! ;D Is it the hardware setup, or the tuning that you need help with? The hardware is pretty easy, like building something out of legos but the tuning for max hashrate and stability can be a big pain. Fortunately, most of the best settings for most of the main gpu companies have already been posted online. For those you can just copy the settings with minor adjustments rather than starting from scratch.
Hey MrFeathers,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I would need help with purchasing the right equipment, and then setting it all up. I know it’s been posted before, however this is like trying to read Chinese to me.
Best,

How useful is configmyrig? I personally find the selection of options rather strange… I mean, do you really need that kind of CPU power? Are those the best motherboards for mining? And I can add many GPU cards, but only a maximum of 850w PSU? It just doesn’t sound good to me…
I would strongly suggest “configuring your rig” somewhere else, plenty of information around on recommended setups. Indeed the hardware comparison chart is very useful for this, but these boards will be able to help you further quite a bit as well.
EDIT: just noticed they recommend buying 2 PSU’s, sorry about that. (I’d still prefer one larger one but hey, that’s just preference I guess :) )
If you want to mine, I would recomend starting with the guides and learning how to do it yourself. If you hire someone to build you a rig, and after a few weeks it starts crashing, what are you going to do? Mining is not as easy as plugging in the parts and letting them run. The rig will inevitably crash and you will have to restart it. you may even have to change the settings to get it to run stable. There is a lot of tweeking settings and fan speeds involved in mining successfully. You will be very frustrated if your rig goes down at all random hours of the day and night and you don’t know how to fix it. I would start by reading the guides here:
http://www.cryptobadger.com/build-your-own-litecoin-mining-rig/
Everything in that guide is good except for the graphics card which is now retired. To pick the cards, first decide on your budget and then post it here and we can recommend what cards you should get.
thanks man, good stuff going to look it all over.
I definitely plan on learning this, but it’s a bit overwhelming right now.
This reminds me of the first time looking at a SSL audio mixing consoles and trying to use it. At the same time having to learn Control voltage, then the foundation of Sound Synthesis /Oscillator on a Moog, then learned to use Reason 7, play Guitar and Keyboards. And that was just this summer making my album. I need a break! -
Hey MrFeathers,
are any of these video cards any good AMD 7970,7950, r9 290?
I thank you in advance for all your help on this. 8)

if the 7950s and “7970s” were available would they be better then the r9 270, r9 280x, r9 290 or 290x?
I know of someone that selling them that’s why I ask.you rock MrFeather!

My research shows that the R9 290 provides a better ratio of hashrate per kw/h of electricity used - that’s incredibly important in mining, because your rig is draining juice 24 hours a day.
Back in the Spring/Summer of last year when alt coin mining really took off, the vast majority of posts indicate that the 7950 had the best ratio of dollars spent on the card to hashrate…but that doesn’t tell the whole story.
If you can afford the R9 290, that is my vote.
thanks for taking the time to write, and helping me out. one more question, what would your choice be if “electricity used” wasn’t an issue?
I dont think I would agree because right now the r9 290 pricing so inflated. They may have been a good deal at 400$ in november, but now they are going for 550$ for 850kh. If you could buy a 7950 for what they were going for before they sold out (under 300$) then its a very good deal because they do 600-650kh depending on the model. The r9 280x is just a rebranded slightly modified 7970 and last november they were 300$ and produced 750kh. Now the same models go for 420$, so not the best deal anymore. The r9 290 are overpriced, noisy, and very hard to cool. The r9 270 actually has the best harshrate to dollars right now since it will produce 470kh for 200$ compared to the r9 290 which will produce 850kh for over 500$. But it depends on your budget. I would either build 4x r9 280x or 4x r9 270.
My budget is $1000 usd -
Hi MrFeathers,
Actually I wasn’t talking about initial retail price paid per hashrate but rather the ratio of hashrate/electricity usage. That’s the ratio I personally am more concerned with.
But I do agree - Two or more R9 280x’s is a totally solid decision, for sure.
Skull, are you saying your total budget for the complete rig is $1000.00?

In that case, I think that you can follow cryptobadger’s info fairly closely, although you’ll generally want to check newegg for those parts, not Amazon as he links on his page for each given component.
So you’ll add up the cost of every other component (obviously), and then figure out how much you’d have left for a video card(s).
That’s good advice. Since you only have 1000$ I would recomend going with 2 r9 270 as they only use 150watts so you can use a 650 watt psu (make sure its a seasonic). r9 280x use around 300 watts. Do you plan to expand your rig in the future?
yes, I do plan to expand as my music studio as plenty of room and electricity in included in my rent… :) -
Well in that case, you might want to buy a 1200 watt psu and one r9 280x and then add more later as you expand.

So the next step would be to post the list of parts you plan to buy before you buy them and let the community critique the build. ;D
ok will do. I hope your enjoying your weekend.
