Building BAMT on a USB
-
After seeing a couple of questions for this one here you go lovely people of the Feather :)
THIS METHOD IS DATA DESTRUCTIVE! MAKE SURE YOU READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE YOU START!
I will not be held responsible for you deleting your precious wallet backups, data, life long collection of photo’s or anything else for that mater!Windows Method
Your going to need a couple of things to get started;
USB key at least 8GB to be on the safe side
Download the latest version of BAMT from here
And a disk image writer, I used Image Writer for WindowsSo with all of the above at hand…
1. Un-zip the BAMT file and put the .img file somewhere on your local hard drive
2. Un-zip the Image Writter for Windows download and put all the files in another directory on your hard drive
3. Browse to the directory made in step 2 and run “Win32DiskImager.exe” by double clicking on it, the following window pops up
4. Click on the little blue folder icon, to open the browser window

5. Browse to where you unpacked the .img in step 1 and click ‘Open’

6. Insert your USB key This will erase all data from the key!
7. Make sure the device listed is the correct letter for your USB key The next step will erase all data from the key! and then click ‘Write’

8. You get a message warning you again of what is about to happen!, check, check, and check again that this is the right device and then click ‘Yes’

You will now see a progress bar as things start to happen, the time this takes depends on your machine set-up (USB 2/3, HDD Speeds, etc) so go get a coffee.

When it’s finished you will get a little window saying so :)

In essence this is it finished, you should be able to plug the USB into what every your going to mine with, reboot making it boot from the USB key and away you go!
From experiance, it might not be that easy, I had to mess about with NIC drivers and a couple of other little bits but for this google is your friend!
On your 1st boot it is recommended to have something connected to the GPU be that a monitor or a dummy plug is up to you, if your using a monitor shut the machine down, move it to the next GPU power it on, repeat as required until the machine has been started with something connected to every card.
Get yourself back over here and follow the instructions regarding set-up of BAMT itself
If your stuck ask, I’ll do what I can
Again feel free to move to guides or where you see fit mod team
UM
Mac Method
I’ll have to come back to this as I don’t have time at the moment, but I will update this post when it’s done!

This may be a totally stupid question but. . .does BAMT on a USB stick act as the mining rig OS and would eliminate the need for WIN and a HD? I get the impression from all I have read following links in this thread it is a stripped down version of Linux with cgminer added or built in? Building my first miner and doing homework so appreciate the posts greatly
thanks,

I’m using BAMT Smos.
BAMT v5.5 and v1.2 would not work or the gpu would error and leave me with a great big red background saying it’s errored.
