Extreme temperatures needs some serious cooling
-
woah. that’s a gigantic fan ???
Its only the R9 280x Powercolor card that’s giving me overheat issue. I’ve absolutely no problem with MSI R9 280X and ASUS 7950
-
Fans are running at 80% for the R290 and R280x - the R290 is noisy noisy ! X |
By positioning the big fan right I was able to get 70C temperature on the R290 which is not bad.

I used a bitly link for the picture - thought you would all like to see the stats for which country people clicked from.
Quite an international community !

If anyone finds this creepy - I will remove the picture.

good suggestion - my gigabyte r290 is voltage locked : (my r280x also by gigabyte can be voltage modded using VBE … when I am feeling brave I will have a try …
Thanks.
Best
p.s. I realised that this does not count as serious cooling - given some of the extreme cooling used by miners - but it an idea for newbies like me : )
p.p.s. perhaps someone needs to buy an old but operating wind tunnel and use that to cool a stack of machines … they would have to be well screwed down ! LOL : D
[/quote]If you load the equivalent ASUS VBios you can unlock the voltage on the 290x, I’ve got a rig with 2x290x’s and as I’m not paying for power on that particular rig I’ve over volted hehe, stopped it from crashing whenever I had memclock at 1500…
-
Wow - not paying for electric - how did that happen ?
Anyway - do you have any links to the Asus VBios or what to do ?
Thanks.
-
Grab the Asus VBios equivalent of your card here: http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/
Flash it with atiwinflash and you should have unlocked power…
-
Thanks - I did that
Now the fan whirrs up and down when idle : )
ok - but I still can’t modify the voltage - any ideas - I am using OC_GURU II by gigabyte
-
I was using Asus GPU Tweak, turn on voltage adjustment in the settings and you should be able to play around with it…
