Newsletter \#21
-
Friends,
Tomorrow will see the first newsletter to be done after the new site and will be released on the News Page instead of the forum.
How do you feel about this? Would you still like a Forum post where you can comment on the content as the website will require a different login.
Also anyone with anything they would like featured?
-
Hmm, having another post on the forums would be nice :)
-
I think both would be nice. I totally agree that it needs to be pride of place on the main website. Perhaps a ‘discuss this on the forum’ link inside the news section for the article?
-
Being able to comment on the newsletter in the forum is something that I think should be kept, but also l think a Pride of Place position is needed to, so basically agreeing with the previous posts :))
-
Perhaps Chris could create it on the site and link it into the forum. Not sure it is totally fair to ask Chris to create content in two places but I am happy to put a copy of it on the website. I installed a BBCode mod to allow me to move all the previous newsletter across.

Might be easier the other way round using RSS.

What’s the content management software being handled by the site? I recall there used to be tons of bridges that would automatically copy the contents of a post and make a new topic in a “news” forum that only admin had ability to make new topics in but users could make replies to the topics made.
Dunno, probably a lot of work for something that’s solved with 5 seconds of copypasta. You could even leave it to the users; it’s not like this other place I go where they get super upset if you’re pulling page impressions from the front page to the forums because of ad revenue and stuff.

We found a way round this in PHPBB using RSS and one of the many Wordpress RSS importers whereby we used a forum subcat for news in which only admin could create new posts but members could reply. Point the RSS importer at that feed for the subcat’s ‘new topics’ and it works quite well. Not sure what the RSS features are like for IPboard though. We also used the same RSS feed to post to facebook via the RSS-Graffiti app.

Having read people’s feedback, how about we release it on the forum first and then put it up on the main site the next day or over the following 24hrs?
That way we reward the core community.
