Nvidia 750 ti? looks promising

This may be unrelated but I had issuses as the on board graphics were trying to compete with the cards. If possible turn off onboard graphics b4 boot. I ended up installing Ubuntu 12.04 without any cards installed. Then as you may have read i had to upgrade the kernal b4 the drivers would install.
I’ve not tried windows tho so this all may be useless. :-(

No onboard graphics with my Gigabyte 990 tho.

I don’t understand why Windows 7 is so popular for mining, it’s only slightly cheaper than 8.1, people spend thousands on rigs then try to save $20 on software?
Try Windows 8.1, you click windows update, come back in 30 minutes and you’re ready to mine… It really is that simple…

I love Windows 8. I’ll admit though, I haven’t used it without ‘Start8’.

I’ve never went after a copy of Win8.
I guess I should? Meh. Can it run off flash drives?

For hassle free mining, it’s got great driver support. All my problems went away when I started using the stock Microsoft drivers that Windows update wanted to install for me.
No mate, you’ll need to grab a HDD, I use a Kingston 60GB SSD in all my rigs and they are fairly cheap…
-
im using ubuntu 12.04 it runs right off a usb stick and its free :-) you cant get cheaper than free.
also by using linux in my own little way im flipping the middle finger to the blood sucking monopolizing corporate that is microsoft.
which makes me happy inside! lol

Yeah, update. Definitely couldn’t get flash drive to work, got an install off one going but it wouldn’t do windows update which was necessary for the frickin’ .NET 4.0 framework. Ripped a 60GB SATA out of a 360 enclosure, wait, let me back up, ripped out a 20GB to start with and the install went fine but updates pushed it to capacity, so now I’m running a 60GB and it’s working.
I could not get xubuntu 12 to work with the Gigabyte 750ti, so I gave up.;
I didn’t want to have to run Windows, but I do want a machine where I’ll have these colocated to also be able to run my trading bot, so, you know, sacrifices.
Installing all the security updates now. Will clone drive for 2nd rig after I get everything to how I want it.
-
Did you try upgrading your kernal to version 3.12 as that was the problem I had with Linux and the gigabyte 750ti

I guess I’m going to have to.
I have never had such a difficult time with equipment as I have with my combo.
I’m wasting so much fucking time.

So everything was working… THEN IT WASN’T and I got this message over and over:
“Unable to query CUDA driver version! Is an nVidia driver installed?”
AHHHHHHHHH NVIDIA AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
But now I just found a page where someone is saying I may have to make a dummy plug or something. Which is dumb but makes sense because I didn’t start having problems until I started remoting in.
If that doesn’t work, though, I’m going to be annoyed. OFF TO PERMA A SCREEN TO IT BRB.
-
Sounds like you need an dummie yes.
Ive found that it depends on the mobo you use wether or not you need an dummie plug (at least for AMD cards).
Pretty easy to make though.
You need an DVI-I to VGA though, DVI-D plug will not work.
-
Cool. My EVGA cards that don’t need plugs came with DVI- to VGA ones that I can mess with.
Off to the location. I’ll see if someone in our hackerspace has some, what are those, 75ohm resistors? so I don’t have to go to radioshack.
