Sounds great.
A small addition might be a tip jar for each song that people like.
Or maybe as its FTC and easy to do pay 0.1FTC per play or buy the track for X FTC (Which maybe could include a download)
I know a few bands that I could get to sign up. We would need to make it really easy for bands to sign up and start earning money.
(Just throwing out random ideas here tho. Well done for getting started on this)

That is a good idea, in my opinion the fee for listening to a song should be much lower than 0.100 FTC, I was thinking anywhere from 1mFTC to 1uFTC, this would allow someone to get a bunch of plays for a relatively low cost, while not shafting the artist as there are many other ways to pay them (donations, buying shares). I would like to give the Musicians the most control over their distribution and payment model. (Maybe we could add a subscription feature where your funds would be automatically sent to your subscribed artists every day/week/month.) The only downside to giving the musicians more control is that it makes the setting up of their profile more time consuming and that may hinder adoption.

The largest hurdle is how lazy people are, people like stuff at a button press, having to send over coins for the sake of tiny micropayments might be a larger inconvenience. Having a pot topped up with funds you can tip/pay at the touch of a button is an excellent idea, but I’d caution the use of the word ‘subscription’. Jar or Pot are much friendlier ;D

Update: I was pitching this idea to a few close friends. And I think that having ‘investment’ part should be artist specific not song specific. The artist would be able to sell off as many %'s of their future plays as they wanted. With each play costing 1mFTC. For instance, if you thought that an artist would get more than 1000 plays, then you would pay 1 FTC for any whole % of their future income as it would generate profit in the long term.
Edit: whole*

update: A very (read: VERY) basic website is up now, actual utility to follow

I like the idea of ‘shares’. It gives fans a way to support the artist and at the same time get something back for promoting the artist. It’s not that it’s turning fans into a group of marketers, agents, or managers, but rather them getting something back for what they would do anyway. E.g. posting it on a blog, twitter, facebook.
Interesting to see how your site turns out. Please consider adding your project here: https://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php?/topic/6838-the-projects-thread/

Hello everyone,
To put a face to the name, I’m the one developing the featherlabel site.
Some technical details for anyone curious:
- Hosting via a DigitalOcean droplet
- Using Go and MySQL for our application layer
- Songs are being served via Amazon S3
Next stage is hooking up user accounts- I’ve got most of the stuff scaffolded out but just busy as always. You can see a summarized roadmap of our next steps on the about page.
If you’re interesting in following the development progress, I’ve setup a twitter account that I’ll be updating as I make more significant changes: @featherlabel
Always open to input and can be reached either here or more quickly via @jonahgeorge.
Cheers,
Jonah

Hey this seems really awesome! Interesting idea with the investing into artists…

I know a few bands that may be interested in this. Great idea :)

I just tried to sign up and it gave me this
{ "status": "failure", "message": "invalid character 'a' in literal null (expecting 'u')" }
Also, did you possibly want to move this to the Digital Media section of the forum considering it’s an actively developing project? We can pin it as well if you like.
