I repurposed a few old computers, shockingly getting even 60khash out of some older cpus.

Main effort is my aging 5770 that runs at about 190Khash when I go to itensity 18.
Sheesh how are you getting 60kash out of old CPUs? :) what software are you using?
Depends on their definition of old. I have some ‘old’ computers lying around for me too. But they equate to like 667MHz Intel Coppermine, Athlon 2.7GHz, Intel Celeron, etc… Although I do have a nice amount of dual core and above rigs ‘spare’ xD
( The only gripe is that the cost to run them way exceeds the shares they’ll make and earn from :P )
Well if I wanted to mine with my CPU what would be the best software to use?

Read between the lines on how to mine with CPU!

Thanks will read through it when I get home :) I was mining with a CPU before but I got such a low hash and I’m sure that I could get a much better hash with my current CPU.

What parameters are you using for your 5770? I have 2 of them myself in my ‘normal’ pc and getting 120 ~ 140 max out of them.

New settings as of yesterday :-)

Core i7 860 @ 2,8 Ghz
16 GB RAM
64 bit Win 7 Ultimate

Cgminer 2.11.3

Fan 59%
Engine 875 Mhz
Memory : 1250 Mhz
Voltage : 1,200V
Intensity 16

Currently hashing at 225 Khash :) :) :)

Nice!

You only changed Intensity to 16? Nothing with thread-concurrency, worksize etc?

nope, all standard 2.1.1.3 settings

nothing changed except for the intensity

Maybe you have a version with less shaders than mine, I think you can verify this with CPU-Z

And that’s a possibility, but I wasn’t aware there are/were two different models/releases of the 5770. o-o

Well that was a certainly an interesting read, the more you know. :)
A little curious as to why 80 shaders are locked down initially, it’s not like the sold this cards at a cheaper price. Hmm.

Same… I get about 380-390 if I set I18 but then I can’t use the machine. With cpu mining included I get about 410.

depressing when you see pics of people who’ve just bought things specifically for mining. oO

It is a little, especially when I think ‘why can’t I afford to do that’ xD
That aside, I’ve just used my gaming rigs, not brought any hardware specific for mining really. (If I was, I’d of brought 3 x 7950s instead of 2 x 7970s =w= )

I use minerd (pooler/cpuminer from github) on them under Ubuntu. Some old dual core cpus can even score strangely high, probably because they have a higher rate which these days get’s compensated with more cores (and lower clock speed). I run on an old toshiba Notebook, that’s at least 6 years old now with 26K hash even.

These are speeds I read on the accepted messages from minerd, so they are the real ones, not some odd ones some pool s sometimes report on.

I’m hardly a hardcore miner, but my 7850 is pushing along at ~302kh/s.
I’ve had it up significantly higher, but am pretty satisfied considering I’m only working at intensity 13.

It means I can do other things on my rig… like read this pretty forum :)

Hi DeadZebra,

I’m getting about the same hashrate as you averaging about 610 per card.
I have 4 7950s on my board (3 cards in the pci16 slots and 1 in a pci1 slot) and for my next project I’m going to try to mount 6 7950’s to a board, I haven’t looked for a board that can take that or even if its worth doing because I heard you can fry your pci slots with too many cards, so my question to you personalty as you use the 7950, is would you limit your rig to 4 cards or try 6?

I’m not sure about 6 but I think 5 might be fine because I have heard of many rigs using a 5 card setup but none using 6x 7950. You are going to need to use PCI-E risers for a 5card setup though I think.

I have the 4X 7950 setup on risers which is great for cooling, but I guess its a 5 card setup for the next rig, it must be a motherboard limit. Cheers for that.
