Long Term Planning - Met with Wesphily
Wesphily and I had a chance to visit today concerning long term planning and immediate action items. While I ** Want ** to work on PHP projects, I feel my time is better spent on infrastructure. Here’s a quick rough of what’s being worked on:
1. Continue to get community members to fill out the quick surveys.
2. As surveys come in, I’m able to help better organize our current teams.
3. Markus1337 has asked to step down on the PR lead only because of time commitments. He will continue to work with the team as well as run the Gambling section
.
4. Until we’re able to reorganize the teams, Wesphily has volunteered to step in to held coordinate efforts between PR and Merchant Services.5. Bushstar is working on the Advanced Check Point System.
6. Once ACP is implemented, there will be another big push from the PR front.
7. Bushstar is contacting some of the development resources I gathered for Merchant Services.
8. Wesphily and I are looking into voucher options to streamline purchases of Feathercoin for JoeUser. The introduction of Koolio’s escrow service will be a huge help.
9. ** Love this **

Feathercoin Myths- Videos being worked on
Feathercoin Differences
- We’re working on mapping out all the things that make Feathercoin unique in terms of merchant services, market, development approach etc…
Feathercoin Future
- I know Bushstar is investigating client options from feedback.feathercoin.com. Once he decides on some rough time tables, we’ll start that document.
10. Feathercoin Video - Targeting Female Market
I believe I can say this safely without coming off sexiest. This market is ** dominated ** by an under 30, male, tech background oriented person. While there’s always exceptions, this is our current market. The reactions I get from different females friends is ‘typical’ of the following:
1. Show them the popular crypto message boards and chats (I don’t think I need to name any specifically) and it’s the “This guys need to leave the house now and then”.
2. Show them our site and it’s a more ‘Oh, those logos are cool’ or ‘Everyone seems really friendly compared to x’.
If you’re thinking the sampling size isn’t large enough, well, re-read point 1. :) We need to leverage the our FTC market, show that there’s a reason to spend time mining for Feathercoin.

If you’re currently on a project, please leave a reply here. I’ll include it into the original post.

This is your coin, tell me if I’m heading in the right direction. Essentially, I work (volunteer) for you.

I’m pulling together a prebuilt p2pool server instance so that that will run inside a virtualbox. Idea is that our windows based miners can download and install virtualbox + the prebuilt, secured, ubuntu server that’s preconfigured with a p2pool server. They will just need to change the default payout address and off they go.
Will be testing with UKMark over the next day or so to make sure it’s n00b friendy then i’ll upload it to somewhere (any thoughts on where i can host a 900Mb image?)

You may end having to split it into rar files and host them in pieces.
the file sending services have 2Gb limits, but not for publicly hosting. These are for send to email type file storage.wetransfer.com for example is 2Gb file send limit.
a couple questions:
The prebuilt pool server would be run on a separate machine from the mining rig?
Or can it run on a windows client?
Can the pool server and mining be done on the same box?
For sharing the image, stick it on a (sandboxed) Dropbox and publish the link to the folder. Ensure it is read-only access.
It can be hosted on the same machine or separate dedicated machine, entirely up to you. It will be running inside a virtualbox (free software like vmware) so you literally install virtual box on your windows pc and it creates a separate “virtual Machine” inside it. You then copy my image into the virtualbox and then press go. You basically end up with a ubuntu instance running inside your windows system.
Other than download the software, you should be good to go in ~5mins.

so if I understand, the purpose is to encourage many pools; to distribute mining; keeping the chains from being on too few pools?
Absolutely. It’s easy take down 2 or 3 big pools but to take down hundreds of p2pool nodes is a hell of a lot more difficult especially if they are private, non-advertised nodes.
Also (as I’ve mentioned in other threads) as p2pool uses only a wallet address to identify you, there’s no registration needed (so keeping a bit more privacy) and if you move between pools you don’t have to wait for pplns to ramp up provided you use the same address across pools.
