Prebuilt p2pool server (Run your own server on Windoze)
-
I know that some of you would like to run your own p2pool node but may be a little daunted at the prospect and/or think it’s just for ubuntu boxes. Well, with the help of virtualbox (a piece of software that lets you create “virtual machines”) you can run an ubuntu based p2pool node inside your windows machines. You can even run it on your miners themselves.
So, in order to encourage more people to use it, I’ve created a pre-built secured virtualbox image that you can download, switch on and point your miners to.
Please let me know if you are interested in BETA testing (NO LINUX SKILLS NEEDED)? I’ll send the link out to you with instructions via PM.
The image is about 800MB and runs on ubuntu 12.04.
No Linux skills required (the instructions will tell you all you need to know).

Cool, just finishing the destructions and i’ll pm you the details.

Can confirm this does what it says on the box and then some, tested this last night for Nut and it’s brilliant!
Also ideal for anyone who just quickly wants Feathercoind up and running in a Linux environment! 8) -

I take it there’s logic as to why I get 1 share every 30 seconds or so and 4500 shares in about 5 minutes running off a private p2pool node? Does it make any difference to FTC payment?
This is the variable difficulty, it auto adjusts itself based on your hashrate. There’s no difference in payment other than you will see the funds in your wallet as soon as the p2pool network finds a block rather than having to wait for confirmations before a pool sends the payout.
NutNut, you did remember to add the -n node assignments on your image to connect to your main node and p2pool.org’s right?
My main node is hardcoded in there. As for the max-conns - have seen no benefit on either of my servers. One server has max-conns 100 (the public one) and my backup private one doesn’t. the one with the setting has 19 conns and the other has 17 (with no-one mining on it). Can you point me to the current default max conns?
Simkill - as d2 has said, it’s the variable diff. When you mine to your private pool it’s basing the difficulty on your hash rate. When you connect to the pool it takes everyones hash rate (currently 42MH/s).

Agreed, I’ll add p2pool.org too.
Also thanks for pointing out the connections, i swear i read through that file for an hour and couldn’t find it. I’ll change the defaults in the code to save the number of switches required for startup. It can still be over-ridden if wanted.
Do you think there’s any benefit to upping the outgoing connections?

Sounds like a cool project, I would like to test it out as well.
