Question about Solo mining w/ wallet vs solo mining w/ your own pool
-
I hope someone can give me some directon here…
If I have more than one rig (say two or three) is it any more efficient to solo mine using my own pool (with only my rigs participating) vs having each rig mine directly to the wallet? I mean, would a pool combine the resources of all rigs and improve my effiency or would my output be the same as three rigs operating independently and each mining to the wallet?
Keep in mind, I’m talking about a pool setup on my own server with *only* my rigs participating - not a public pool.
You would have the same luck mining them all to their own individual wallets as you would to a private pool as a pool offers no greater chances of a miner finding a solution. This is all probability and luck really. Setting up your own p2pool instance without any nodes to connect to would give you a private pool though and the benefit of this is just pretty stats / history.
Edit: If you decide to go with a private p2pool instance, it’s worth noting that all of the block rewards would normally be divided between each miner connected to it. The best way to handle this is to set the pool fee to 100 and specify the wallet address you wish for all the rewards to go to.
Rather than set the pool fee to 100%, i tend to set the default payout address to my wallet and then login with each of my rigs as “rig-1”, “rig-2” etc. As p2pool doesn’t recognize them as valid addresses, it simply sends all payouts to the default and you get meaningful names on the stats page. ;)

Thanks d2 and Nutnut, appreciate the info. Right now I’m mining on Nutnuts public p2pool but I may set one up for myself.
Incidentally Nutnut, I see that your rigs have disappeared from your public p2pool have you setup another one just for you as well?

I have. I’m running it solo ATM (no peer connections) but I may swing them back later today to give the p2pool network a bit of a boost.
