Could be worse.
You could have an XFX 7970 with fan failure, and instead of using garanty from purchase place you deside to try to mend it…
TADA!

the fan completly shattered.
Then i tought well i just use watercooling, until i realised that XFX no longer use reference pcb…
Have ordered me two of these: http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/vga/502/accelero-xtreme-7970.html?c=2182

Have high hopes for theese. do you want a report when i have gotten em tested? :)

don’t need no stinkin warranties!
hold my beer and watch this!
BBBZZzzzzzzzttttTTT ! :o

i’m bad about seeing what makes things work also. most of the time i win and we won’t talk about the times i don’t ::)

7950 rig is still a work in progress, stability issues. established a stable base line and bumping each card up slowly to find out which one isn’t playing nice at the speeds i want. just a waitin game now. i want this one as to be as stable as my 5850 setup. sometimes i forget that one is even running since i never have to check it :P

I’m sure when i read the [s]destructions[/s] instructions it didn’t say “don’t run 4x 7950s full tilt 24/7”. AND if that mobo was in spec it can deliver 70w through the pcie slot. I’ll have a new board please. :)

Who said anything about 4?=P
7 on the one that got 24pin fried.
5 on the other one (or 4 really full tilt x2)

nice to have all the *wackos* in one thread :P
breakin stuff makes ya smarter even though it may not seem like it at the time…LMAO

still can’t seem to stabilize my 7950s. seems i have a stratum error that kills cgminer. runs fine until the pool drops stratum. failover set and i’ve tried multiple versions. maybe i’ll just redo the whole thing when i can find some time
*looks for BFH in the meantime* 8)

why do you powertune +20? Seems crazy to overvolt a card when not needed. i get 620 with mine 7950 at I20, 1050/1250, powertune=0!

it was an experiment more than anything. +3 powertune made the xfx cards jump 10K. can’t explain why since they already run at 1.25V. i wish they weren’t locked ::)
i could make the visiontek throw out over 650K before the fan began crappin out without any powertune settings. now it runs at 557K (950@1250 I-19=77C) to keep the heat manageable. i really should get that fixed under warranty *eyeballs a junk 6870 with good fans. twitch twitch*

haven’t seen my miner crash today as of yet. guess the pools are playing nice on stratum *shrug*
xfx x 2 = 606K @1030/1250 I-19=75C not as bad as the web reviews made them out to be i guess :P
