Getting pci-e 1x on asus z77x up5 to work
-
Having trouble. Using xubuntu.
But when i run sudo aticonfig --lsa it can only find my cards connected to the pci-e 16x.
I have 2 cards connected to pci-1x too, tried to look trough bios, reformatet xubuntu, swapped the connectors (tried both powered and nonpowered)
Do anyone know if the pci-1x slots use any dedicated pins from the 24 pins connector(teo of the pins are a bit fried, but seems to work. Any tip on what to do? Going crazy here -
Presence detect?
-
Tried running only 1x yes, that didnt help at all=P
One time i got a card from the 1x, then i rebooted in hopes that i would get both the 1x cards.
But then i found no one again.Do start to think that the psu 24pin connector might be to damaged making it not deliver enough power to the pci-e slot itself.
Btw got wrong manufacturer (to many rigs/mobos…), its a gigabyte z77x up5 with an intel i3 2550 prosessor.
According to their website there shouldnt be a problem using em all, just the speed that decreases when populating more than the 16x slot. -

[/quote]No. Presence detect is a “feature” on some mobo’s whereby it looks to see if all of the pins in the x16 slot are populated. If you were to stick a 1x riser in a x16 slot it wont create the circuit and the slot registers as empty.
To work around it you need to short pins on the slot. Have looky here… https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=16576.0

ah sweet! that might be it. broke one of the
“16x” slots earlier this year which basiclly was an 8x in length when
the plastic end was gone. only thing that where extra at the end was
precence pin!that might actually apply to the 1x slots to.
will modify one of my extenders tomorrow and try!hopefully its the answer. going nuts having 2x7950 and 1x7970 sitting idle!
want to get stable up and running before starting on my ftc ideashowever if i know myself right i’ll order extra cards when im finished mounting the ones i have

Fingers crossed. Rather than modify a riser though it’s easier to find a bit of thin wire (telephone wire is good as is the offcut from your powered risers) and simply slot it in to the hole on the top of the slot behind the pin (not the slot itself). When you insert the card it clamps the wire in place. Just make sure you get the right hole (oo-er ??? ).

It wasnt the risers, i do however suspect the enermax 1500w psu to be unstable after two of the pins from 24pin connector had meltdown.
When i pushed the cards the computer would hangup after 5-10min.
Even tough the heat and everything else seemed excellent.Tried to put the card in another mobo and just get 12v from the enermax to the pci-e extender, it didnt work at all. the 12v from enermax was really unstable.
Seems that the psu needs replacement. -
