Five 6970 on Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 won´t work
-
I have an ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX R2.0 AM3+ ATX that currently has 4 6970 on the pcie 16x slots. But when i add a fifth 6970 on the pcie 1x slot cgminer suddenly gives me a temp error like -125c on one of the cards and that cards fan goes to 100% then cgminer freeze, not always the same card get this problem on.
The PSU is a OCZ ZX SERIES 1000 WATT 80 PLUS gold
Should i ad powered riser to all slots or is it just to much power. The gpu´s are running 925/1375 intensity 20
Im running Xubuntu 12.10 with Cat 13.4 -
I am willing to bet that the first problem is you overdraw your psu and cause gfx errors when you start mining. After that then it comes down to the board working properly and I would suggest powered risers.
-
I would say its Overdraw, with that setup I wouldn’t think of running less than a 1100wat psu but would seriously look for bigger than that.
-
Gonna try my new powered riser thats finally arrived tomorrow and borrow a wattage meter.
Otherwise i’ll regret the $$$$ i saved buying the PSU (had a cheap moment that day) -
Just ordered a CoolerMaster Silent Pro 1300W 80+ Gold :P
-
couldn´t find the seasonic below 391$ but the Coolermaster was 240$ brand new. Was curious about the Lepa 1600w but saw that it didn´t even have a power switch.

Theres a reason why seasonic is a little more expencive. and yes its that much better, coolermaster is not single 12v rail so i would stear away from that one.
I have the Enermax Maxrevo 1500w psu also, its not as good as the seasonic period ;)Btw i would check the backside of the mobo, the things you mentioned was what happened to me right before the mobo caught fire…
Most likely the mobo will be brown at the bottom backside due to overdraw on the pci-e busses. Powered risers is a must when going 3+ cards with 7950 at least(at least if you clock some extra).EDIT:
Seems i mixed up the coolermaster with some other one, the coolermaster was single rail after all. -
New PSU worked like a charm :) Rig steady @~2500Kh/s
