7850 mining rig?
-
I have an hypothesis.
I want to build a rig that will achieve 2,000 kh/s and squeeze it into only 500 watts, this is my goal using conventional GPU tech. These twin frozr 7850’s use only 106 watts. With undervolting and light overclocking I think it’s possible with 5 of these cards as they should theoretically produce ~400 kh/s each.
Problem is, I’m broke right now. Does anyone have any experience with these particular cards? Is my goal unachievable?

I don’t think the 7850s are the cards you want to do this with. While they may have low power consumption now, when you push them with an OC these numbers will go up. Also the more fans moving the higher the power consumption. So instead of pushing 5 cards you may want to look at my last post about power optimization. I bet you could get 2000KH/s with either 3 or 4 7970s/R9 280xs undervolted and underclocked like I am doing now. I can get about 630KH/s for about 150 watts or less on my 7970s. I am still working on getting the power usage lower but I went from 300 watts per card at 740+ KH/s to 150-200 watts at 640 KH/s and dropped core temps over 10C.
Another option is look for 4x 7950s and undervolt and down clock them to 500KH/s and I bet you could get them to run between 100-125 watts.

[/quote]Power optimization you say. Hmm. [gears working] :)
