Since this intro made me curious, I signed up but noticed that the “getting started” guide on your website doesn’t really work for me.
For instance: you refer to cgminer but since v3.7 (current version is 3.8.2), cgminer can’t do scrypt mining anymore. So I downloaded the CPU miner you linked from your guide, but my anti virus software said that MINERD contains a trojan.
Any ideas on how to start for me?
Btw. I use Win7 64Bit

I assume you want to GPU mine.
Here’s what I had to do to get my Radeon working…1st thing I had to do was get OpenCL working.
test this with GPU-Z. it will throw an error if OpenCL isn’t working.
If it runs and the check-box for OpenCL is ticked, it’s good to go.2nd thing I did was get guiminer-scrypt. (it has a scrypt cgminer in a subfolder)
At this point I got CGWatcher and ran cgminer (the one within guiminer) from it. I tweaked the command line arguments from inside CGWatcher and didn’t mess with the .conf file. If the cgminer would open and close real quickly I’d hold shift and right click the cgminer subfolder and choose “command prompt here”, type cgminer + “the command line arguments”, hit enter and see what went wrong. There is invaluable info in the readme and scrypt readme files in the cgminer folder. (like setting the number of shaders for your vid card, intensity, etc)
After registering w/ a pool, like above, you can set up a “worker” and a worker password. This worker is then used in the command line arguments to start mining. I have this in my command arguments along with the other miner settings: " -o stratum+tcp://eu.pro-tech.bz.it:3334 -u DescentFiend.WORKERNAME -p PASSWORD"
Once it is actually running, you can check progress on the pool’s dashboard page. There’s prob better ways to do this, but this is what I did. The hardest thing for me was getting OpenCL working properly. (I had to delete a few system files then reinstall an older version of AMD APP SDK).
I hope this helps, good luck!
Thanks for this detailed intro. Well, I am not sure if I can use a GPU since I only have a notebook (Lenovo T420s with NVIDIA NVS 4200M) at my disposal.
I installed the Feathercoin QT as wallet and found a “mining” tab in it.
After I signed up at a mining pool, I typed in the necessary information - but when I clicked “start mining”, I got the message that MINERD was missing. So my assumption was that some form of minderd was all I needed to get started. But when I read your post, it suggests that it is much more complex than that, no?
Anyways, whenever I download guiminer scrypt http://sourceforge.net/projects/scryptguiminer/ my antivir solution says that minderd contains a trojan.
Is that a false positive or do these miner applications really contain malware? -
Update: I just found a very simple alternative: cudaminer
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=167229.0
Just download the latest version. It includes a complete build and works fine for me.
There are only 2 things I am surprised about:
1. My notebook with NVIDIA 4200M generates an average of 15kH/s. That seems very little for a GPU - even though mine is a mobile version.
2. According to your dashboard, it will take me 30 days of mining to complete 9 FTC??? -

Notebooks arent that good for mining. 15kh/s is really low a normal CPU is pushing out more kh/s than your GPU from your notebook. So it isnt costeffective to mine with a notebook at all.
I’m so new to mining anything that I really don’t know about the specifics of the other questions, but I believe it is a false positive. Once I got infected w/ a piece of malware with a bitcoin miner embedded in it (to mine for someone else), probably the scanner is flagging all miner software because of instances like this.

Is there a minimum threshold for auto payout to not receive the TX fee? I don’t see it stated anywhere, except to say that on-demand payments are taxed @ 0.1, which I’m currently getting with each auto payout.
