Mining Rig Advice
-
Hi,
I would go for a cheap HDD over a very small SSD since it prob will be cheaper and 32GB is a little less if you’re running windows. The rest looks fine. Personally I prefer a i5 but that’s just me.
I would go for an open case build. Especially with 3 video cards. As it will be getting hot (as in to hot for a case).
Good luck anyhow :)

Don’t buy that psu. It’s a multirail supply. If you pull 300 watt on one of the rails you’ll probably trip the supply. You NEED a single rail supply and as has been stated dozens of times on the forums - seasonic x1250/1050 or the xfx black 1250 are THE ONLY PSUS I RECOMMEND.
Without going into all the detail again - the seasonics/xfx (same psu) WILL handle 100% load 24/7. Nothing else we’ve found can do that with out either blowing GPUs or blowing themselves up.
As for open case, you MIGHT get away with 2 cards but they will be hot so your case temps will rise and then you’ll start blowing components.
For mining more than 1 GPU, open air (unless you have water or serious (LOUD)air movement)
Also - overkill on the mobo. I use ga-990fxa-ud3 and a amd fx 4300 CPU but you could use a sempron instead.
Thanks for the advice. I will see what i can do about the PSU.
The problem is i cant find all the parts i want in local shops, and if i ordered them online i would end up paying alot more (shipping+customs). Lets hope i find the Seasonic PSU :).
As for the Mobo i got a pretty good deal for the one i listed above, and i may end up using it for a gaming pc later so its all good.
Thats a multi-rail PSU, no ? So is there a way of running them on single-rail settings ?
you got me confused there. -
i would touch that one with a ten foot pole.
pretty useless with 8! 12v rails with only 20amp pr rail!
that means you get maximum 240w output pr pci-e connection on 100% utilisation.
which is enough for 7970 if you use two rails pr card, but leaves low overhead pr rail
means you also gotta plan when connectingmy 1500w enermax (i guess they are quite similar design) has killed two 7950 cards,Yay…
you cant chose to run a multifail in singlerail design.
edit: seems that psu has switch on back for choosing multirail or singlerail mode.
how they do that i gotta wonder, multirail output stage quality (price/quality) running single rail? sounds like a “false” singlerail solution… -
Oh boy…

That is about the ropiest PSU i have ever seen! I would bin it immediately before it blows something else up.

Compare it to a seasonic review…

So, i really don’t know what to say, except as previously mentioned in this thread…
Seasonic x1250/1050 or the xfx black 1250 are THE ONLY PSUS I RECOMMEND.
I WILL NOT give the thumbs up to ANYTHING else.

Just found the Seasonic x1250. Picked it up instantly :).
Thanks again for the advice, i wouldnt have gone so far looking for one if it werent for your strict opinion :p.
Ill let you guys know how it goes when i set everything up!
Cheers!

wow it was even more suckier than the enermax maxrevo 1500w.
thats impressive ;D (dont use the enermax any more cause the 24pin contact melted and destroyed both mobo and psu cable. thats sucky right there…i have 4x seasonic x1250 and 1x xfx 1250. both are rock stable and pushing 4x 7970 with 3Mhash or 4x7950 at 2,5Mhash
Dip switch 3 and 5 on the unit will make the PSU single rail if they are are both on
