Planning to start mining

Hi guys,
First off, thanks for the welcome in the newbie section of the board. This seems like a very friendly community, which really matters to me. When getting into something this geeky, it is a big plus to feel that there are people who care and are ready to help out. That encourages more people to do the same and we end up as one big, happy family ;)
First off, I have my eyes on an ASUS Radeon HD 7990 with 6GB GDDR5. There is one card in stock right now, and the price is about twice what a 7970 would cost, but the same goes for the hashing power of the card (more or less), if I look at https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison#NVIDIA
I just want to ask in here if you think this would be a good purchase to make? By only buying this one card, I could start out by putting it a computer I already have.
The mobo is a ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Sandy Bridge, and the PSU is an EPS-1000W. It’s a cheap PSU, so I won’t expect it to handle a constant draw of 1000W, but I guess it should be sufficient for this one 2-GPU card.
Any replies are much appreciated :)

That shouldn’t be any issue 8)

Sounds good!
I relocated some funds. Do you think my PSU could handle the pressure if I put in an HD 7970 as well? Or should I upgrade it?
-
Well, I did it! I have an HD 7970 and an HD 7990 on the way :)
Please let me know if you think I should order a new PSU as well as the Energon EPS-1000W was a bit cheap.
Thanks for the help, guys!

Other than the PSU dieing on you or causing ripple for the GPUs you should be all set. You might not find a setting that both the 7990 and 7970s like to operate together at as a heads up. They are the same GPUs but the firmware and other factors may prohibit you from getting the most out of both cards.
Thanks for the answer, Ripped.
If the PSU causes ripple for the GPU’s, what will the effect be? Will it just cause somewhat fluctuating hashing speeds?
As to finding a setting for both cards, I never had more than one GPU, so I actually thought you would register them as separate workers. Isn’t that possible? Or do you have to bridge them somehow? Should I try to, in time, have only identical video cards installed?
Sorry if I’m asking obvious questions. I just didn’t read about this anywhere so far.

I just found out that the shop I ordered from have three XFX Radeon HD 7970 OC Double Dissipation in stock.
They haven’t shipped my order yet. Would it be better to change the order and get those three instead?

Hey,
I would suggest getting a decent PSU installed. It is better for your card and for your overall system than a cheap one. If you look at a lot of tests done in reviews, cheap PSU’s rarely spit out the correct voltages.
It all has to be weighed up with how much your new one costs and when your looking for a positive return from your mining investment etc etc.
With the prices being what they are you want to get up and running quickly whichever option you choose :-)

Noted! Thanks for helping out, dcwsco :)
Yes, time really seems to be of the essence in this game. Dear mister postal worker, please do hurry up! ;)
