Greetings everyone,
looks like there has been some issue with the pool or the feathercoin daemon. Even though there have been found shares there have been no payouts and the overall p2pool hash rate significantly went down. Not sure what caused this - i have restarted the feathercoind and the p2pool service and now everything seems to be back up - i have received payouts again. Not sure where the shares / results went in the past hours, though.
Some other pool operators have contacted me about roughly the same issue. Not sure what it is about, though. Even though it’s working again, i will have a closer look whenever i can.
-
Don’t suppose this would have caused my issue?
The only reason that I ask is because I am sure I say payouts while I was mining but I never received… I also noted the very low efficiency as well.

No, i don’ think this is related to your issue. With a low hash rate like 25khs, you need to mine quite some time to actually receive your share of the coins for sumitting the shares. I do have some LTC test miners running and it took them 3 days until they received some coins. Like 0.008 after 3 days… ;-)
-
Can i use a GUI to connect to your pool? I really want to mine FTC but i’m a newbi :) Help me out and i’ll connect 1.5 Gh/s.

Greetings,
What mining software do you currently have installed? You do not really need a GUI, a windows batch script will do, for example with cgminer…

Good evening,
looks like the situation got sorted out. There is a new repository for a feathercoin p2pool that seems to have a much cleaner implementation of feathercoin in p2pool. I have updated my pool to run that software. Performance looks great as this version does not produce as much errors as the old version. Press you thumbs that it works properly! And… enjoy!

I am back on with my 3 miners. I will check back with you and let you know if I am able to get anything out.

Greetings everyone, there is another Feathercoin p2pool available (using https://github.com/chrda/p2pool-fc.git) which i have set up our of curiosity among others (Bitcoin, Litecoin). I would be very happy if some people could join mining on that pool to allow myself to exchange experience with you. I’m also interested in your suggestions and comments!

Hey MrSheep, was just wondering if you’d be willing to share a gitclone of the modified p2pool, it seems it was taken down prior to 2nd May when I was poking around =w=

Found that we may mining on more than one public p2pool (but working stand alone)
Here is my address 6vLquF9foaAHcsqpALDkKz99bMg6JyKV7a which joined http://pool.maeh.org:19327 yesterday
My hash rate keep stable but payout displayed dropping from 7 Ftc to 1 and now … not even in payout list.
However… i received single block(31129) payout 13 FTC on same address that was hidden on p2pool statics
Hey there!
There was an issue on Friday with the initial p2pool repository vanishing from github and someone providing a new (more stable!) p2pool version for FeatherCoin. This one changed the network identifier causing the p2pools to split up. I have installed this version on the night from Friday to Saturday. The overall p2pool is now at a hash rate of 359MH/s which means that a significant number of p2pools already adopted to that new version.
So what you have seen might actually have happened… i have not digged into that further - it sounds reasonable and plausible though.
Regards,
MrSheep -
Greetings!
Another update: The Feathercoin daemon connected to the p2pool is now running on a ramdisk to improve performance (in particular latency). Let me know if you notice any issues.

You need to mine a certain period of time on a p2pool to receive payments for your mining… Let me know if you’re still mining on the pool - it does not look like you do?

Greetings everyone,
some significant update is coming in the following days: I am currently in the process of migrating the pool server to a dedicated host with a quad core cpu and 32GB of memory. So far the latency in the connection to the other p2pools and the coin daemons looks great. As that is a dedicated server rented for the pool, i will then need to switch to a fee of about 2% i think. Will give you time to re-direct your miners if you are not okay with the fee. Will also let you know when you are able to test the new machine to see if things work better / improve…
Regards,
MrSheep -
Sounds pretty good to me, I do have one question however. How necessary and how much usage does the 32GB of RAM get?
Right now (without much load apart from some tests at the moment), the memory usage is the following:
litecoin daemon: 2.7GB
bitcoin daemon: 2.0GB
chncoin daemon: 0.8GB
feathercoin daemon: 0.8GBThe p2pool for the different pools right now uses between 300 and 500MB - this will significantly increase with the number of miners that connect to the pool.
As for the amount of memory: I have foreseen to eventually put the coin daemon databases into a ram disk if that increases the performance and reduces latency (less disk i/o). For all the daemons listed above that would require roughly 11-12GB of RAM additionally.

Hmm, thanks for explaining out the usage figures MrSheep.
I (personally) don’t think that the latency would very too different, yes a RAMDisk has insane read and write I/Os but I can’t see it ever needing such figures.
I’d wager (and this is me personally again) that your average run of the mill 300MB/s R/W SSD should provide plenty of overhead.
Still, it’s something to keep in mind for me. I intend to just run a small pool for friends anywhom. I have some 16GB kits laying around but I don’t think I’ll exceed 4GB to be quite honest. :PAgain, thanks for taking the time to provide a few figures for me, pretty sure it’ll be interesting information for a few onlookers too. ^^
