Woke up today to a smell of really well burned plastic, i was like NOOOOO!Went down to the basement and was like a narcotics dog, sniffed all the cards but couldnt locate the source.
Checked my monitoring app to see that my 4x7970 rig was down, so i started investigating it over and over. everything seemed fine and i restarted it back up (phu, it wasnt one of the 7970 cards).I then realized that that burning smell came from the ONE bad PSU i got (apart from the Enermax), A one month old Corsair TX750,
that construction consist of a mini atx mobo with amd LOW end processor and 1ram+128gb ssd and two 280X.
Sooo powerwize i should be fine! Apparently not…Will see if the burned smell goes away. but im ordering a Seasonix X1250 as we speak cause that Corsair gotta go!
OMG - now you’re scaring me :p I’ve got 1x Corsair HX850 Pro Gold powering 3x7950 currently pulling 580W@Wall + 1x Corsair RM750 Gold powering 2xR9 280X pulling 470W@Wall. I hope I wont be smelling anything soon here :o
Im guessing you under volt since you you get that power consumption on wall side?, 2x 280X at 470w including 150w system consumption??, you shouldn’t be worried.
I dont under volt so my 280X pull close to 300w each. still should be more then enough given that the estimate from a PSU is on the dc side, meaning with a 80% effective psu you should be able to draw 900w on a 750w psu

btw regarding the monitoring thing, its pretty easy to set up, but you need to get a webhost or set up on on your own machine:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=222632.0I could live without that monitoring thing, can check it from anywhere as long as i have internet connection 8)
Thanks for the info! :)
Ok ty =) I was just worried b/c I got the PSU’s from the same brand width identical PSU watts, running the same cards
yes I run the 280X @ 1000engine / 1400memory @ 1.07v each. Running with no hickups since saturday at about 1370kh/s total. Idle power consuption is around 105w. Undervolting saves me about 50+ watts per card, compared to stock settings.

Pffft!
If your gonna go max hashrate and not undervolt etc i would be sceptical.
Nutnut runs a 3x 280X Asus matrix platinum on a rig with Seasonic X1050, the Seasonic does work a bit with cooling the PSU
Since its seasonic he doesnt worry that much=P,those cards use around 290w so thats roughly 900w, then the system use about 150w (normal), so he is on 1050. but we know seasonic has some overhead here=P
Using an Akasa Venom Power 1000w however i can not guarantee anything… im not that familiar with it
Oh man! Haha, you are wild! You have 16 GPU’s running, and now you’re getting more! :D
Seriously, my question from earlier on. How are you supplying enough power for all this? I live in an appartment and it has three power groups supply 10A each, so it’s a theoretical max of 3 x 2200-2400w, including power for cooking, vacuum cleaning and such. I’d be out of luck with your setup ;)
But I guess you must have a house with more power groups. Anyway, I would love to see and hear your basement! Care to put a video on youtube? :D
-
have 3x 63Amp in to house.
but im selling of the old cards as i get new oned
so the farm only has 2x16Amp +half an extra 16A -
Sounds nice. Come to think of it, I recall that electrical heating is common in Norway, so that might have something to do with the impressive amount of power going into your house, I guess.
In Denmark, electricity is heavily taxed, so central heating is all most people use.I have to punch in 0.36$ in the calculators *sigh*. It kinda unlevels the playing field a bit for me.
-
wops. i have to put in 0.15$
