R9 290....woot!

Nice, maybe we should start an R9 tuning thread? I’m currently getting 800-900kH/s with my 2x R9 290x’s.
I’d contribute to that for sure.

Sorry, just to be clear, you’re getting 875 Kh/s from a single card?
Yup. Just the one…for now.

r9 290 should run at speeds similar as the 7990. 7990 ran around 1150 - 1300 kh/s . Check cgminer settings for that and copy for your 290. It will at least get you going.
But keep in mind, the 7990 is a 2 GPU card with 2x2048 stream processors vs the R9 290 with 1x2560 sp’s. I think it’s more like a ~20% increase compared to a R9 280X/7970.

Hi, thats a good khash! May i ask what settings you have.
Also what graphics card drivers you are running, i found different khash rates with different drivers.
Clock/Memory settings.
Cgminer version, settings file, OS Version.I am getting a lot of HW errors in CGminer, forcing me to use GUIMiner (which for some reason doesnt produce as many HW errors even though it runs CGMiner for you). Also which pool you are using, i found different rates on different pools (not sure why).
Cheers!

so im wondering when it comes to the video cards is the video ram what gets lots of hash or is it the stream process. In other words will a 2 gb card with 1600 stream proc be better than a 4gb card with 1300 proc?
-
I think an R9 tweaking thread could be kinda awesome. We could develop guide from the information we gather and pin it in the mining section. We have scryptors come from far and wide just to see it! Then maybe they might decide to stay and become feathercoiners too because to be honest, it’s scary going this stuff alone.

don’t be scared calem its ok :P

Anyone know this answer would really like to know thanks
Actualy engine and mem clock need to be in a sort of harmony.
I always get the max out of the engine clock and then playing with the mem clock (25-50MHz steps). For example my XFX 7850 gets more hashes on 975/1250 as on 975/1350 (330 vs 310). The Club3D 7850 runs on 1050/1350 at 385, so it also depends on the card - you will need to play a little bit around with the settings to get the max out of the cards.
- Plopsi
PS: XFX 1.075V ~80°C 85% fan, Club3D 1.138V ~75°C 50-60% fan
€: It’s a Club3D not a Sapphire
€2: it’s 3xx khashes of course :) - sry it’s late here :) -
+1 rep thanks 8)
The stream processors is pretty much where the money is, since they do all the actual hashing.
Thats why e.g. an older ati 6970 2GB will still outperform a 7870 Ghz Edition 4GB model. The 6870 has lower clock speeds and is the [s]inferior[/s] older architecture, but it has more stream processors.
It’s also pretty much the only actual disadvantage of the new R9 290 vs R9 290X.
AMD just disabled some of the stream processors and lowered the clock speeds on the 290. ;)
