Profitability of running a pool server ?

I was wondering what the profitability of running a pool server would be.
Most pools ‘charge’ a small fee of your earnings for their own ‘cost’.
But how much is that actually ?If i look at give-me-coins, they charge 1% fee for FTC and 0% for LTC. Although it seems a little if i look at the stats it appeared that in the last 30 days there are 3584 FTC blocks found. If i’m correct every block represents 200 coins so the miners on give-me collected 716800 coins. Take a 1% off that end the pool ‘owner’ makes a profit of 7168 coins per month. At current exchange 0.0005BTC and 1BTC = $900 the earnings are $3225,-
And thats only for running the FTC pool on this server. If we look at the LTC earnings same numbers as follows:
2448 FTC block, @ 50 coins each is 122400 coins , 1% is 1224 coins @ $31,55 is total of $38.617,- per 30 days …I reccon its worth to build a website and rent some co-hosted blades for this kind of money…

Yeah but there already are enough and you need to build up a name etc, the initial cost is very high and it’s a long term investment so you’re better off joining one of the existing pools IMHO
Either way, think twice before you make the investment ;). If you can spare the money then sure why not, the more the merrier, but we need stable reliable pools not 1-day flies

Well i have no intentions to setup a (cluster of) centralized pool server (yet).
Startup costs are actually very low.
Apart from making a good looking website there are almost no additional costs.
Server hardware is co-located and rented in VM’s these days and costs peanuts compared to the hardware miners have to buy, install, maintain etc.
Expanding VM’s is just a matter of clicks and selecting a good hosting provider with decent bandwidth to one of the major Internet Exchanges is all it takes.I wonder where p2pool fits in.
Is this ‘better’ then having some centralized poolserver owners taking your hard earned coins ?
After all miners do run quit some piece of hardware and an additional p2pool server wouldnt be a big problem i guess…
