Ordered XFX 290 from amazon for 428 on Thursday!

So I ordered the said gpu on Thursday, and paid for next day (Prime, so really cheap), and low and behold the ball was dropped somewhere. The card wasn’t sent to UPS till after midnight, and UPS has yet to even say they have it in their possession. Contacted Amazon today, asking why it hasn’t been delivered yet, as the delivery date was supposed to be Friday. I was told that it appears it is in UPSs’ hands, but they cannot confirm that as UPS hasn’t acknowledged receiving it. The rep told me if it isn’t here by the 19th they can send another or issue a refund. My mind thinks, send another and hope UPS is just being stupid slow, and get 2 for the price of one! The rep then informs me, even if it is here by the 19th, they will issue me a partial refund for the delay! I would be happy if its just the extra I paid for shipping, but knowing amazon it would probably be 25 or 50 dollars.
Best of all, this rev has a decent chance of flashing to a 290x!
Dream scenario, card doesn’t make it by 19th, Amazon sends another, and a partial refund, then 2 cards show up! One can dream can’t they?

lol that would be nice.

290X is completely new silicon though so how could a 280 be flashed to run at the rate if a 290?

Theres a chance you can flash to 290x, but you would have to be very lucky. Only the first batch or so sold in November have had high success rate.
Also its possible that the warehouse staff know which 290 cards can unlock by flashing the bios. Several online retailers such as Overclockers have found in their stock all the 290 unlockable cards and sold them at a higher price separately, as they are no longer listing them to be sold separately, inwhich case new batches may not have the 290x shaders onboard.
Best of luck though, and excited for you if you get lucky.
Make sure to follow a good guide, and dont flash to just try it, you can find out definitively before hand. Also if its not possible then dont worry, for some people its not worth the 4% performance increase (32 khash), the instability, the potential bricking and the void warranty :)
