      Dummy plug is defo the answer here, had the same problems with mine until I dropped windows and went to BAMT

          Good info. Could you also post what Cards you are using and such. I thought I was having this issue with my 7970’s, but turns out, it was just me.

            Keep in mind when you are watching your rig via Teamviewer it significantly reduces your hashrate - does for me anyway. I prefer to SSH into my rigs and use an alias to bring up the cgminer window that’s already running - no drop at all.

              I remember reading somewhere that this is caused because windows shifts back in to standard view or whatever Microsoft call it these days.

              I had been meaning to check this out, and maybe write the instructions for it as I really like the look of it but had lost the thread so thanks for digging it up again for me. But I’m not sure how the pools bit of it is going to work as I mine against a P2Pool node ??? I’ll try setting it up this week as I have a little bit of spare time planned, and maybe contact sradics to see if there is anything that can be done if your mining against a P2Pool node.

              I’ll let you know how I get on.

                Im pretty happy with my freevnc, it just works. and don’t have the number of computers limitation as the team viewer free version.
                I also figured out that its not the card that is causing the mockup in regards to need of dummy.
                It seems its the mobo that is causing the headache for some reasons (was amazed when i moved the card to another mobo i had no need for the dummies), exact same windows install/amd drivers etc.

                  2. If I have a rig with 4 GPUs, do I need dummy plug for all of them or just for one?

                  It depends on the motherboard BIOS and the OS, with Ubuntu and ASROCK bios I need two dummy plugs/monitor for 2 of my cards. GPU0 is following the instructions in the BIOS and doesn’t need one. With some other flavors of Linux I don’t need dummy plugs at all.

                  Again, depends - I basically had all mine hooked up with dummy plugs and started taking 1 off at a time until I saw a card’s hashrate drop, then I knew it needed one lol. But some OS didn’t need them at all.

                    Some of the best hashrates/power consumption figures I"ve seen are with BAMT. Before I dive in, may I ask a n00b question? You can remote onto multiple headless rigs using BAMT? Im not really familiar with Linux, however I’ve had some success with Ubuntu in the past running it for my media player…

                      Yes you can… I use the Windows RDP client to access all of mine, simply because it’s installed by default on my work laptop, and I have it on my Mac for when I’m using that for work. But un-like when you coined to a Windows machine it doesn’t effect hash rate.

                        Damn, could have saved myself $210 per rig not needing Windows or a HDD, and yes I’ve noticed the card handling my TV requests drops when I’m connected… Gonna have a play tonight, thanks mate…

                          Sorry dude, that’s one of the reasons I looked at BAMT. When I started building my rigs I only had 1 spare HDD kicking around the house. Also BAMT on a key means you can disable a bit more on your MoBo saving maybe a little bit of power, but I have no idea how much.

                            I’m pulling 1100 watts at the moment per rig with 4 x 280x’s (1.075v) with Windows and a HDD.

                            I’ll let you know when I’m done how much power it saves, I’ll also turn everything off that I can in BIOS and see how much I can squeeze it ;D

                              1. uuuuuhm, i have 8 rigs all with different mobos, its like russian rullett if you need it or not. for example the one you really do not need on is a bitch to get working several cards on in general
                              2. if you get a setup where this is a problem you will need a dummy plug in each card, (not including the “main card” if you have an monitor plugged in)
                              3. If you have an monitor connected to one GPU you will get full speed on that GPU, the rest will run idle at around 80khash, until you put dummie plugs in em.

                              If you dont have the setup yet, go to ebay and buy a small stack of DVI-I and a small pile of 68 or 75ohms resistors. then in case it becomes an issue at least you have the solution ready,
                              also it cost next to nothing for those things, think i paid like 10GBP for 20x DVI-I with matching resistors including shipping.
