Risers

Hi,

I was wondering - when do you need a powered riser and when do you not - i.e. why choose a 1x-16x vs 1x-16 powered ? - surely the gfx cards get’s it power directly from the psu ?

I don’t know the reason why, but every guide I’ve read written by someone that sounds like he knows what he’s doing says use powered risers…

In a nutshell - I think it’s a case of some gfx cards needing some power from the motherboard and the fact that - motherboards are meant to support 5 hungry cards so you help them by having powered risers - if you only have about 3 gfx cards it sounds like you don’t need powered risers - but perhaps I did not read it right.
