\[News\] Home Router Hack Security Alert

I’m not too well at the moment, but thought this was important to post…

A friend came round last week with a problem with his Laptop computer
. It sounded like a trojan but when I tried it on our
network it worked perfectly.I told him to phone and the ISP to check the filter, and to check the
“Router Box”, to see how many WiFi connections were made.Anyway - he told me Sunday that he rebooted the Router and the problem
went away.Today I find there is a new trojan out in the wild that attacks
Routers. It is a single byte image that can be injected into any web
page (e.g. Brazilian newspaper). The pixel tries to attach to the router (e.g. 192.168.0.0) then tries a
common user and password. If it gets in It then alters the DNS settings
in the router to point to their evil server where they can redirect
traffic to false bank sites etc.Looks common and any one can be affected…
Watch out for anyone with this problem…
I set up the link at the top - how a web browser can find your internal IP.

Had me worried about my router too for a second until I remembered I changed it to a random 110bit string, good luck in that being guessed.
But in the same vein I do need to reset my wifi.
I’ve been stuck using WEP as that is all that the original Nintendo DS game consoles support, but my son just got a 2dS, so I should now be able to use WPA-PSK.
For those that don’t know WEP passwords can be hacked in about 30 seconds
