I dont use the prefab power cables. The power allways goes straight from the connector to the card with no “feedback wire”!

So i have never had any worries with this issue, and i have connected two extenders after one and another. one active and one passive.

If you connect two active cables i can see that this might be an problem, especially if you connect both the power plugs :P

DigitalOcean is great for tons of different crypto-related tasks. Mining isn’t one of them.

UM I’m cancelling my 280x order based on what you said, gonna stick with the 270x.

I put a crate of 3 x 290x Sapphire’s together today and my ears are still ringing… I cant take any more noise in the warehouse…

I’m also assuming the power consumption for 1x 280x is lower than that of 2x 270.

For a someones first entry level rig though, if you can only afford little but still want something you can play around with, the 270 is all round excellent card.

I’m not sure if it’s voltage locked though, I have tried playing around with that yet. I think I read somewhere that Gigabytes R9 range, are all volt locked.

You can get around any voltage issue by flashing the Asus firmware for that range of cards, the Asus cards come with voltage unlocked.

I’ve noticed the same thing as well, my windows rigs fall just a little behind comparable rigs running LInux based mining software…

Why not start again, use xubuntu 13.10 x64, use the CGMiner in my link if you want or don’t just saves faffing about with compiling and the AMD SDK, Try with a single card.

if you run through these and you get the command line reporting the temp of the card you are good to go.
use a basic cgminer with just your user and password and the stratum of your pool

sudo apt-get install fglrx-updates fglrx-amdcccle-updates fglrx-updates-dev
sudo aticonfig --lsa
sudo aticonfig --adapter=all --initial
sudo reboot After your computer reboots, you can verify that everything worked by typing:sudo aticonfig --adapter=all --odgt If you see all of your GPUs listed, with “hardware monitoring enabled” next to each, you’re good to go.

I did all that under a fresh 12.10 and it showed me “hardware monitoring enabled” and temperatures for each but it didn’t matter by the time I went back into cgminer because it did exactly what I said.

It’s definitely the board and the power supply. I’ll be RMAing them tomorrow.

For third party option, those sapphire oc card (standard fan) are shit. i think half of my cards failed over time on the fan (roughly 10 cards)… especially if you push it to 90% (i ran em at 80%)

Those arctic Accelero things made my 7970 cards run at 65degrees! and dead silent! an worthy investment imo >:D

I didn’t want to bite the bullet on this but I have already spent way too many hours pouring over aliex and ebay and everywhere else to find an exact replacement; doesn’t exist. Nowhere. And what company where a majority of graphics cards vendors order your product OEM doesn’t have it’s own website?!

The 7970 label confuses me since it’s a 7950 but I presume the chip is in the same location on the card for both?

What would you like to achieve? What you could do is periodically get the stats from p2pool and track the active miners. This way you see which miners have been active for how long. They will disappear once not active from the stats…
