Even on an evaporative cooling system you need to get the “evaporativaded” parts/particles out, so i would say: give the fans - sugessted from svennand - a try. Cool Air in, hot air out of the room should be enough for normal rigs. Your 6 - 8 GPUs are making muuuuuch hot air so… 1200m3/h could be not enough, but test it… maybe you will need 4 or even 6 of the fans…

Otherwise you could build a watercooled rig with a room centralized radiator :) There are so much possiblities :D (aircooling is the cheapest and less efficient)

I can’t seem to locate the switch on the card. The only thing i can find is the Sapphire logo button to overlock it.

Did you try asking cgminer to control the fans? Such as:

Also you can set a temp target in the config, like this:

I found that the hotter my cards get, the more work is rejected (thats with 280x). In other words higher temps and hash rates seemed to be a false economy.

Also, you’re likely to struggle with those cards in a case. It doesn’t sound like you are using any other form of cooling? A slow, but large desk fan makes a massive difference to my rig… just sayin’ ::)

[b]PS.[/b] I limit the intensity to 13 on the newer cards, as recommended by cryptobadger. Wonder if the 290x is a similar case.

I’ve been hoping MSI Afterburner or a similar program will unlock voltage control, no luck yet.

I have a Powercolor 270X (non devil version) and cannot control the voltage.

Just prefer 3.1.1 According to people its more stable than newer releases (however i haven’t experienced this)

Found out windows put my cards to idle, had to build myself dummy plugs to keep em alive. Pretty stupid that this happens with win8 and and 13.12! Should be fixed by now!
But then again, it only happens to my Asus cards (sapphire works just fine)

I have already got around working with mining proxy. The problem in that specific CPU is that it is behind a firewall (at least that is what I think seeing that it doesnt connect to server, it just timeouts). Is there any way to bypass the firewall, like a proxy inside a proxy? :)

I’ve not tried under windows yet (need to get some mining in as coin count is very low) but using cgminer under BAMT the lost I can get both my Toxics and my MSI is 1.2v

It hasn’t made a difference to the hash rate, but has made being anywhere near the rig a much more pleasant experience and has broth the power down a little :P

I’ll keep going on it at doe point in the near future when I get time, and let you know how it goes

The unit itself is a Magma ExpressBox 16 that failed hard. The unit was replaced leaving the bare chassis. Anyhow, the guy that handles recycling and disposal for the company that owned it is a good friend of mine and thought it would be a waste to let it go given there’s nothing wrong with the chassis itself. The only downside was that he kept the fan mounts.

Sorry mate, not sure where you’d find one other than through the Magma if they happen to sell the bare chassis, or through an electronics recycling and dispersal firm.

Well I have had to run my rigs flat out for the last two weeks. I use them to heat the appartment 2br large living room and kitchen. It has been between -10 and 0 Degrees F outside almost every day. I have yet to turn the heat on in my apartment, instead I control the temp by how open the window in the computer room is.

I run a few different settings, I have a power optimized setting and a flat out mining setting on all my cards. Read my post here:

i got 18 of them. they are all on different boards. i just swapped the ASUS cards around to see if it was a different rig that was causing them to heat up. yea they are all getting the same hash rate. the msi are getting 470. i dropped the settings on the ASUS to make them run cooler so the are running around 420. i have some sapphire 7870s that run cool. i thought about trying that heat sink on the Asus. It looks like they line up. This would let me know if the heat sink on the asus is the problem.

Just registered to comment on this as I have a Club 3D 7990 bough second hand which had the same symptoms. I thought about the process for a moment, then decided to disassemble the card and change the heat transfer paste. After that the GPU:s run at 70-80 celsius. The taking apart was surprisingly easy to do.

Hey Keshuker. Thanks for registering to tell me that! :)

I took the ASUS HD 7990 apart yesterday and you were absolutely right. There was way too much thermal paste… and of poor quality.
I gave it some Arctic Silver and replaced two of the conductive pads which broke in the process. I didn’t get as big a change as you did, but it did save me about 3 degrees, so it’s better than nothing :)

I’ve actually ordered water cooling for it, but the water blocks for 7990 have been out of stock for a long time. But as long as it gets here before summer, I think I will be okay :)
